House Folio Map Extends to Middle of Road - my rights?

    My Folio map for my house extends all the way out to the middle of the road in Blanchardstown village in Dublin. It's an old house so it would have been rural enough when the folio was drawn.

    Do I have any rights to the road over the council? Currently the council are trying to put a bike stand and a gaggle of other daft "hub spots" directly outside my house (I've no driveway) Which they are ignoring my objections to.
    As such, I want to know if anyone knows if I can legally challenge this? Or have experience with a similar situation?

    The road is in the charge of the council. Your only real rights (over and above random members of the public) arise if the right of way is closed (as might happen when a road is realigned).

    If you might wish to have a driveway in the future, you might ask the council now to position the street furniture to not unduly restrict your options.

    Up to a certain value, councils can do small works on the public road without requiring planning permission.

    I think it means you can claim against house insurance if something happens on that bit of road too. Not hugely relevant in the context though.

    This is a good point though. We haven't even been told what the council are planning outside our house but understand they'll be doing something in the next few weeks.

    You will need a solicitor to check this and write to the Council. If they have not taken the road in charge they may not be able to erect these structures.
