    Hi all,
I'm looking at a BMW 520D 2012, it has the Nav button, but no satnav. Does anyone know if it is possible to add satnav? Is it expensive?
    Thanks

don't bother - Its been years since I've use the 'built in' sat nav on any of our cars - CarPlay / Android Auto along with the better maps that come as standard on smart phones render the built in ones useless.

the issue I think is more the smaller screen - it's looks crap in the interior and really cheapens it.

You can get pro nav (wider screen) retro fitted for about €1k and comes with 20gb HD for music, DVD player etc.

I do use the nav sometimes also.

The buttons are there because it's cheaper for manufacturers to fit the same generic switch gear across all models rather than having different for ones without it. Not sure though if the GPS receiver you need for sat nav is still fitted by default to cars without it though. Also sat nav was not standard on the 5 Series until it got a facelift in mid 2013. If the car your looking at doesn't have sat nav then it certainly has the standard narrow screen so if your going to the expense of upgrading then you might as well look into getting an aftermarket widescreen android unit retro fitted. Goggle is your friend as there are plenty of aftermarket options out there but just becareful as there is cheap rubbish out there too.

Problem is that a 2012 5 Series is not going to have CarPlay or Android Auto on it either. The OP will need to spend money to retro fit either.
