The fact of a person being a carer would not be relevant, to get a loan you have to be able to show that there is some evidence that you will be able to pay it back. If you are on a very low income, whether its because you are a student or a carer or unemployed or for any other reason, and it is obvious that you are struggling to live within your means, then you are not likely to get a loan. However if you have a real need and no possibility of getting a loan there might be a possibility of the St Vincent de Paul organisation being able to help. Social Welfare might also be able to help in some circumstances.

A lot depends on how much you want to borrow and what you want it for. If you are already a member of a credit union and have some savings, even a small amount that you have saved regularly you will have a better chance of getting a loan. Credit Union is your best bet and should be the first place to approach.

Whatever you do, don't be tempted to get a 'private' loan from a money lender. You will end up with a lot of grief, and having to pay back way more than you borrowed.
