Disregarded Income

Good evening to you knowledgeable people.

I have been in contact with the helpline and need some confirmation as to whether I have understood correctly.

In summary, we have approx 403 euro income per week from UK pensions and are hoping to move from NI to Cork to be closer to our daughter. My wife is disabled and receives disabled benefits in the UK. We have been informed that NONE of this income is disregarded when calculating entitlement and, accordingly, our joint income is too high to receive any payment at all. We would, apparently, be able to receive Carer’s Allowance. Neither of us has any employment history in Ireland.

My simple question is - have I understood correctly?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi
Can I ask how old you both are?

Hi if your total combined income from all sources is €403 then you won’t be eligible for any other payment then possibly Carers Allowance on your behalf in respect of your wife.
Your wife will have to be in need of full time care and attention.
By full time they mean at least 5 hours a day 7 days per week. You will also have to fulfill the HRC. Carers Allowance applications are very slowly processed (at least 16 weeks) but if you are successful it’s €219 per week plus you will get Free Travel for yourself.
