First Time Vehicle Suggestions

    Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a decent car or van for a first time driver?

Would prefer to get a van (or large car that I can possibly modify to make space at the back), but not sure what the deal would be insurance-wise? I'm 22, and don't have my licence just yet (work in progress). Would prefer not to be spending thousands on insurance!

Budget for the car/van is around €2k.. could possibly stretch to €2.5k.

I know nothing about this kinda stuff so any advice at all would be really appreciated!

    Cheers!

Unfortunately you are in one of the highest risk categories for insurance so that might put paid to your plans even with a van. Have a look at something like an Opel Astra estate or van with the 1.7 CDTi diesel engine, the van version is based on the estate anyway so offers more room than a standard hatchback derived van. Do a search for similar examples on donedeal and then get some insurance quotes on them.

Unfortunately we have all been there +paid thousands in insurance for 1st car.

I know when I was driving the size of the engine was a big factor. Really anything over a 1 litre was not viable. Don't know if this has changed but bear it in mind. They also don't tend to like modifications to vehicles.

The good news is that after 2/3 years if you drive safely + no crashes/ penalty points your insurance should reduce drastically.
