Hello, i have stamp 4 and my partner EU country passport holder . We have 2 children both under 2 yrs of age.
My partner applied for social housing and is currently on waiting list. She requested me to be added altogether onto it. And then she applied for HAP. All documentation sent and just waiting response which most likely will be successful.
I work 19hrs per week and she is on maternity benefit (started last month)
So my question is since my partner is the main applicant for social housing/HAP can i i apply for WFP (working family payment) ??
Will this affect all her application for housing).
Plz help n advice. Thank u

    1. You can certainly apply for WFP and you'll get it if you meet the eligibility rules.

    2. Applying for social housing/HAP is a totally different and separate process and the application is assessed by a different organisation (your Local Authority) than your WFP application will be. So your partner's application will not be affected by you applying for WFP.

Note however that if you get HAP and then get WFP, the amount of rent that you will have to pay will probably increase.

Thank you very much. So probably i should notify the HAP dept once i get it and tell them that i will be getting WFP .

You won't inform the HAP dept about anything! You partner will, seeing as she is the one who has applied for it!!!!

And she should only inform them after you have been informed in writing that you are getting WFP.

Thank u. I will wait till we get confirmation for the HAP and then wait a couple of weeks and then apply for the wfp . Probably better this way. Then as u said wait for wfp and notify the hap dept. What if i tell my partner to not say anything to HAP dept if i am getting wfp?

Personally I'd apply for WFP now as you'll likely be waiting at least 12 weeks, maybe longer, before they look at your application, there is always a backlog. If approved, your claim will be backdated from the date you applied.
If your partner fails to inform HAP of the increase in income from WFP if it's approved, when they find out you will have to pay the arrears. Honesty is always the best policy, you don't want to be looking over your shoulder.
