    08 Seat Leon 1.9 TDI, 160k miles.
The clutch has gone and I've been quoted 950 to replace it.
I think I could get some more usage out of it when this is changed, but not sure how long.
There are also other things wrong with it that I haven't bothered fixing lately (wishbones, aircon).
So would you put 1000e into it and hope it keeps going for another year, or look elsewhere?

Scrap it. For 950 or not much more you could pick up something that would easily go for another year or more.

I’d get a second opinion but definitely consider get the clutch done and the wishbones sorted.

Anything comparable in a post 08 diesel you’d buy for €1000-1500 will be a shi*ter too.

Now if you’re sick if the car, nows a good time to cut your losses.

Id get a second opinion on the clutch price for starters

I’d guess there’s a DMF in there too?

Get a few quotes for the clutch as €900 is extortionate, you should be able to get it done for near half that (parts/labour) Wishbones shouldn’t be too expensive either and you may as well get them done at the same time as the clutch. If the engine is going good and there are no issues with it or the gearbox then spend the money and drive the car for another year or too. 160k isn’t that big and the VW engine is capable of much more. I wouldn’t bother with the air con unless it really bothers you not having it.

Yes, that’s why it’s so much

I've managed to get together around 3.5k for a new car, so I think I'll have a look and see what else there is out there.
What's the best way to get some cash for the old car? Is €250 scrap the best I'm likely to get?

Ask the mechanic if he wants it.

Or throw it up on DD/adverts.ie. Everything sells....if the price is right ;)

Although it might be a hassle that you don’t want.

Something like this? Yeah, does seem very high given that. How much work labour is involved in changing it?
