    Hi,

I have noticed a few threads on here regarding the BMW EGR issue and the recall process. But has anyones car actually gone on fire? This happened me a few months ago. The car was was sent to Joe Duffy for a recall but they stated the part didnt need changing. A few months later the engine died whilst i was driving and the car went on fire.

    Anyone had any similar instances?

Yes I recorded the blaze as the fire brigade arrived and have pics of the wreckage afterwards. Not sure I should post in here though.

Nope. I need to keep them as collateral with BMW over this case.

Posting them here doesn't preclude that.

There are tons of videos online showing bmw’s Burning at the side of the road.
I doubt tie video will impact on anything.

Then what is the addition of my video going to do?

I set this thread up to see if there was anyone else here who may have had the same issue.

Saw a 131 5 series on fire on M4 southbound near Enfield at 1.30pm Saturday last. Entire engine was in flames.

Must have been using the indicators.

I passed the aftermath of a car fire between Kilcock and Enfield junctions on the M4 last Saturday afternoon, only the shell remained but it looked to be BMW shaped?

Edit: just saw mcgarrett's reply. Confirmed.

Their bikes are having issues also. Looks like the German's have forgotten how to build vehicles.

Mines booked in for that recall work next week,
Egr work 100% needs doing given I can smell burning and that god awful annoying whistle plus topping up coolant.

I had the same thing with my X5. It also kept going into limp mode ,usually at a roundabout or sliproad.....

Hasn't go into limp mode yet thankfully but has been noticeably down on power when accelerating to over take.
That sounds sketch as especially in an x5.
    Did they replace yours?

No, they did not. I had to replace it myself at own expense as it was a couple of months before the recall. I also could not even get the car looked at quickly enough (<10 days) as it was about 6 months out of warranty (about 66,000 km on clock). Ended up having to get a specialist to fix it. Long story....In fairness, BMW eventually sent me a refund for the EGR parts.

Garage also had to replace a boost pipe as that had a hole in it, probably due to the same issue but he could not be 100% certain. A month later I had to get a TPMS valve replaced in a tyre as well. Car cost me a fortune. Got rid a few months ago, never buy a BMW again as long as I live. As I have to have a car for work, the very worst part was losing all trust in the car and the brand after paying a fortune for it when new.

I've had Fords, Volvos, Hyundais and Kias and now a Skoda and never had as much hassle with a motor since the Renault 20 I had back in 1979.

I bought a Skoda this time as one seemed to be going well for the guy in my office who kept ferrying me back and forth to the Garage to pick up my X5 after repairs and he has had about 180,000 trouble free kms as well..
