Oil in the intake manifold?

Does anyone know why there would be oil in the intake manifold? I took out the mass air flow sensor to clean it and found it covered in oil. I assume there should be nothing other than air going through there, so should I take out the whole unit and clean it. Car is a 2002 citreon c3

Build up of oil in the cylinder head, eventually will enter the inlet manifold. Usually caused by not changing oil at correct intervals, or using the incorrect grade of oil.
If that car has the 1.6 HDi engine, it's a common enough problem.

Typically, The blow by pressure that leaks past your cylinders has to be released, and rather then releasing oily smelly air to atmosphere they vent it into the inlet manifold.
Also turbo seals can leak into the inlet manifold. Over time a sizable amount can collect.

If you aren't using / losing a lot of oil I wouldn't worry too much.
You can google "PCV valve" for your engine if you feel like cleaning the PCV system.
