€25k budget (+/- 10%)

Head is wrecked looking at this.

My wife and I cant decided on a car.

She likes the Kona (1.5 gdi AWD for around €27k). I think its too small for me, wife, 2 kids etc.

I'd like an Passat Estate. Wife thinks its too big.

Looked at Kona, Tuscon, Sportages, Volvo V40s, Citroen C3/C4s (new). All over the place with this!

Any suggestions? Any one drive the kona with 4 people in it?

€27k seems a lot for a Kona

Volvo V40 is tiny. c3 will be too small too.

Kia Nero is similar to Kona but slightly bigger....

Yeah but the bulk seller 1.0 turbo is €21500 new. Unless you need AWD then just buy a 1.0

They entry level version doesn't have much spec. Executive level is ok. Premium has lots of bells and whistles!

The 1.0l premium would appear to be good value at around €23k for a 181

A new executive is that money, I can’t see a 18 month old premium being worth that much. Most of the extras on it bar the seats are worthless.

So you would go for an executive over a premium? Leather would be one of the things top of the list.

If it’s on the must have list then fair enough. The 3 grand between exec and premium is dead money straight away, you’ll never get it back on resale.

That said, it’s never an investment, €27k on a 1.0 small crossover is nuts.


There is also the issue of size, I’m not confident it will be big enough either way.

They are a bit old school in design though they recently got an update, a bit smaller than the likes of a Kadjar or 3008 but bigger than a Kona which might suit you.

To keep it in budget, I'd dial it back a year or so and go the GT 3008, if it was my money anyway! (Get LED lights too)

Would you not consider tthe latest model Renault Scenic 7 seater, it's a good looking car. Pity there's so few on the roads while people seem fixated on the impractical Tucsons Qashqais etc

You'd get a high spec one like this for price of the cramped Kona

if a kona is too small a 7 seater Scenic is way to big for 2 adults and 2 kids

That interior would give me clinical depression looking at it. The dash looks like a coffee machine in a petrol station.

Get over yourself. You’ve got a serious chip on your shoulder.

Convince your wife that a Passat estate or superb estate is not too big. Once it has sensors and reversing camera she will be used to it in no time and ye will wonder how ye ever did without it.

End up going with a 172 Nissan QashqaiSV Premium with all options. Wouldnt be my fist choice but it ticked all the boxes bar apple car play
