Fairness in the world

I often thought that there is famine in some parts of the world so that other parts of the world can live large.
Wars rage in the third world to protect the price of oil in the first. People live in famine regions because they arnt allowed move to plentiful regions.

Maybe it’s a bit simplistic but if a big hero of our time came to the fore and offered you the choice of driving a 15 year old car and only when you need it eg plenty of cycling, cooking your food from scratch, making your own clothes and no make up/hair gel etc.

    Maybe a Mormon type life.
Would you live a Mormon life if it meant world peace and an end to hunger?

Who is this big hero? Donald Trump? Richard Boyd Barrett?

No because anyone asking me to live a Morman life to save Africa is a scam artist.

If our economy stops it brings Africa down with it. World recessions are causative factors in global poverty.

There would be no Africa or Europe just one big place of fairness

If life was fair a lot of people would still be poor. Let's be honest. Maybe not the SAME people. But a lot of people.

    Fairness can be quite brutal.

My ex neighbors were mormans. The men have a lot of wives. And if they don't they have a lot of affairs.

Not into the being poor thing. Not really into fairness.

The world will never be fair. Despite our outward protestations we are selfish at heart.

Put 3 starving people in a room with one meal and it's unlikely it'll be shared equally

It doesn't need to be more fair. It needs to be kinder and more selfless.

That isn't fair. Its the opposite of fair really.

    But its right.

Ah I dunno I think selfishness is learned not innate.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

The natural state of man is to compete and to gather more than your neighbour. That's why socialism has failed everywhere it has been tried and why it has had to resort to violence to keep people in line.

Fairness and "selfishness" are not mutually exclusive. After all, why do the rich redistribute wealth to the poor? It isn't philanthropy, it's for their own security. If the poor don't get their crumbs, they'll eat the rich man's loaves!

The self-preservation of the rich and the middle-classes is responsible for the perpetuation of social democracy. It is true that such self-preservation is self-limiting. Self-preservation does not lead to equality per se, so it isn't sufficient to fulfil some socialist utopia; but neither is it incompatible with it.

there is very little each indevidual on the ground can do now to fix the situation

the problem with all these places is that colectivly and back through the generations they made no effert to improve them selves.
you say they cannot move. now they probebly cannot move due to politics but over the last milenia they could easily have.

everywhere on earth (with very few exceptions) can sustain itsown level of population. the problem is that these places are way over populated or just dont utelise their natural recourses.

You have to love the internet.

If I asked if Israel should give up a bit of their wealth for Palestine there would be a yes or no answer across the board.

But if you have to give up make up its suddenly a far more complicated question and couldn’t possibly have a yes or no answer and even if the guy from waterworld proved he could make it work it, it wouldn’t possibly work.

Well the idea would be, no personal accumulation of wealth and no wasteful products that need advertising departments to make us believe we need them.

Why do we plunder all the earths steel to build newer cars each year. Majority of people I work with could easily cycle in each day but drive some of them in cars that have the engine size to drag a trailer with the whole building on it.

Personal wealth doesn't cause poverty. Not even extreme personal wealth.

Capitalism has resulted in much less poverty in china but much more economic inequality. Before that everyone was just poor. Now for the most part most people have the basics. And some are very very very rich.

The collapse of soviet Russia before a capitalist states with laws governing its new economy caused a lot of poverty in russia. But there was no huge personal wealth at the time that caused that situation.

And yes poverty existed in Soviet Russia.

Good steel frame, I think, about ten years old and still good as new. 20k a day on it which other able bodied people who do 3 gym classes a week think is way too much for them to cycle.

    Not at all.

Have a number of seemingly random nonsense threads like this one bookmarked. All started by accounts with few to no posts. All seemingly random. Often jump in on hot topics of all kinds.
