Hi Folks, so I've decided I'm going to give the FE-1's a go next year and in anticipation of eventually looking for a Traineeship I'm currently attempting to move to a Legal Executive role within a commercial environment in Dublin City Centre . I have Degree and Masters in law with strong final grades, and also some legal experience working in a debt recovery department within a Bank. The issue I'm having is I've been keeping an eye on the major Irish job websites over the last two months, but the vast majority of positions require at least 1 years experience if not more, and the ones that don't appear to explicitly mention needing experience don't seem to get back to me. I knew having strong grades and some legal experience wouldn't entitle me to simply walk in a to Legal Executive role, but I though it would be a bit easier even to get an interview. I realise perhaps summer time isn't the best time to be looking for legal positions, so hopefully some roles come online over the next few months. For anyone who is familiar with this sector could they maybe provide some advice on what I could do approve my odds of landing a role. Thanks for the help

You might be over qualified for legal executive work. Many firms want para legals to stay for a few years and build up expertise in aspects of the firms work. They don't want ambitious people who are studying hard and will be running out the door in a year or two. Get your typing speeds up and get a job as a legal secretary and say nothing about degrees FE-1s etc. I know a secretary in a major firm who never mentioned that she had worked as an in-house barrister in London. She would never have been given the job if she had revealed that fact.
