Help me value my car

Apologies, I know there are various threads like this.

Thinking of making a trip to UK so looking at trying to sell my own car privately. I have a 131 Ford Mondeo 2.0L Titanium Diesel, 170k kms, full service history, initially with main dealer and more recently with an independent mechanic. Titanium so has leather/alcantara upholstery. Non import.

Any idea on a good starting point to get a reasonably (hopefully) quickish sake?

Like you, people will be looking to the UK for prices of 2013 Mondeo too and comparing with there. Its relatively above average mileage for the year I'd imagine so I'm thinking if you can get 6k for it on a private sale that's ballpark figure for you. Maybe put it up for 7k and see how you get on or maybe more of you think you can get it, depends on how quickly you want or need it to move really

Probably about what I thought really! There is a big variation of prices on DoneDeal, not sure much is shifting though.

Yeah you really have to position it somewhere to get interest. There's always a big variation on done deal.
My general rule for valuing cars is a 3 year old car is worth about 50% of the value of a new one and a 6 year old only about 50% of a 3 year old. So your 6 year old car has about 25% of the value of its new price (or the new price of what an average Mondeo is, yours is a titanium but you don't really get the price back on top spec cars but rather they shift a bit quicker)

Reason for my valuation is 2 cars I bought last year, one was just gone 4 years old and the other was nearly 5 years old and they had depreciated from near 60k each when new to just over 20k each in that time retaining mid 30% of their value.

I know the new price of mine was something like €34k (I bought at 2 years old), but standard mondeo then was €26k so that gives us €6250, hope to do a bit better than as mine is very clean, but not a bad rule of thumb.

Well 6250 to 8250 so I suppose maybe start off at a midpoint there and put it up somewhere in the 7s. It's not an exact science and demand for different cars varies depending on desirability etc
170k kms in 6 years is on the high side though so if you have an offer over 6k and a few hundred quid doesn't matter too much to you I'd say take it, the ones I bought for about 35% of their values when new had 60k kms on them at 4 years old but they were an a6 and a 5 series which have serious heavy depreciation.

Dodgy maths by me, should have been €6500! But yeah that’s my general range, might start at €7250-7500 and work from there.

Good luck with it and if you're getting a good deal on the other side it takes the sting out of it for you

Cheers, have had a look at trading in here, but still a decent saving even at lower end of valuation.

Just to finish off this, I put the car for sale €7750, I got a call and was sold within a couple of hours for €7450. Presumably someone who was on the lookout for one.

Ah that's a good result hope you're happy with it. The good spec does help them move quickly enough over standard models.
What are you buying in the UK?

Planning to get a Kuga, year or 2 old 2l diesel. Will probably get in NI, not much price difference and less transport expenses.
