arriving. Sounds a bit bollocks to me.

It's a 2002 Pug 206LX, 1.1 ltr, worth fuk all in UK, probs 200 quid, I think the VRT calc says the VRT is €460, hardly worth it.

She still has an address in UK, but it's question of domicile and that's hard to answer, ie whether she intends to stay or not, hard to determine intent.

So what does the panel think? I'm tempted to tell them to stuff it and scrap the car. They seem to make the rules up as they go along, the number people I've spoken to about VRT, both friends and officials (revenue, NCTS, VRT woman, next VRT woman) all different.

Well why would you vrt it if she doesn't intend to stay in Ireland?
If the person has owned the car for more than 6 months in the UK there is no vrt due

I agree. Her intent is intangible, our address in UK supports that.

And the six month VRT thing is the only thing I've heard consistently across opinions, they can't suddenly make up a new rule.

I might give the Revenue a call, though I'm not hopeful of getting an answer. Perhaps I better read the law on this...

Just realised my OP was truncated, no idea what happened there other than the first bit makes no sense...

Not really sure what you mean, if the car was registered in the UK for 6 months or over you pay no VRT. If it wasnt registered 6 months then scrap it if you won't pay the 400 quid

Yeah the first part of my post disappeared. She’s own med the car in UK for years, and brought it to Ireland but didn’t register it here until the revenue caught her and fined her €200 and told her to register it in 30 days. Fair enough. 15 months she drove on yellow plates.

Now the vrt folks are insisting vrt is due cos she didn’t register the car in Ireland inside 30 days of becoming resident. Which I think is bollocks.

She had the opportunity to avail of it and chose not to. Who cares. She’s dodged more than the €200 in tax in the 15 months.

So she drove on yellow plates for 15 months and didnt pay any tax but you think it's bull**** they are trying to charge her vrt?

Jog on, the pair of you are completely in the wrong, pay the vrt or scrap it your call, absolute chancers

There's no VRT issue here apart from the pair of you scamming and trying to avoid paying it, that's about it!

    Pair of scumbags
