"The Irish prime minister spent at least €400,000 while wining and dining European Union and world leaders since taking office. Taxpayers have been forced to fork out for lavish lunches, drinks parties and even musical acts while Mr Varadkar entertained international dignitaries, including European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Pope. The shocking extravagance was revealed after a series of freedom of information requests by Ireland’s Sunday Independent newspaper."

Is this a lot, what is your opinion?

In fairness, €350,000 was Kylie's appearance fee

Just over three and a half grand per week.

I don't really get the outrage to be honest.

Would have expected much more honestly.

Probably the ‘no way, we won’t pay’ crew, Padd.

At least the hapless Brits won't have to employ any after dinner cabaret acts as Boris will provide the entertainment!

If the Brits hadn't voted to leave the EU, those EU dignitaries probably wouldn't have been visiting us as much in that time period, so they are definitely to blame... ;)

Boris Johnson spent £322k on water canons which were never used and sold for £11k.

Express should focus on mater's closer to home.

(€400k on entertaining diginatries over 2 years sounds reasonable)

Might be true but the express have their own agenda and it isn’t Irish taxpayers

€700 to book a singer isn’t huge. Hardly paying 50k to the Corrs here

Half of the money was probably spent on drink for Drunker Juncker, your EU President 2014 to 2019

What would be a normal amount? half that? I'd expect a lot more official dinners of late given the circumstances.

We are still a country paying 8 billion per year on our national debt interest yet are leader and the man we are meant to take guidance from is spending it like it's going out of fashion. A household in massive debt wouldn't be eating at the Shelbourne they'd be shopping in Aldi why is it our government can act different with money that's ours?
