Importing car but it won't be in my name

Other half needs a car. She really doesn't care at all about cars and will drive anything. So basically she wants me to pick it out and get it.

Will she have to come to England as well to sign the v5 form or can I go on my own to get the car even though it will need to go into her name.

Also just to clear something up in terms of the v5 form. I will be bringing the v5 form home with me. Is it just a section of the v5 form that the English owner keeps and posts off? Does the English owner just tear out there section?

You won’t be signing the v5.

Who signs the v5 or what needs to be written on it?

You don't sign it. If the car is being sold and permanently exported then the seller is to give you the V5C registration document with the car.

They keep a export part but you need the full document as said above.

Keep boat receipt and purchase price of car....

Thanks for that. Nearly forgot those. Also how do you keep purchase price of car if buying private and paying in cash?

Get them to write out a receipt and sign it....

Take a photo of everything and also suggest they do the same especially the v5.

Ask them to if ok to add other name on receipt and go from there.

Keep as much as possible and also in case you are unaware check mot UK for free if car has been tested which will give you mileage etc....

Obviously if over 4 years and still not full proof of clocking or not but definitely a help.

She will have to bring it to the VRT centre herself or another person will have to take her photo ID with them when VRTing.
I brought my partners car in to VRT on her behalf and had to quickly return home to get her passport to complete the process.

As this appears to be a Private Sale (purchase) I'd advise printing off the relevant pages from the DVLA Website regarding 'selling a car to a non-resident'. Most UK private sellers are convinced they have to send off the complete V5 to Swansea......;)
