"Gardaí have arrested a man in his 30s following a horrific knife attack on an 93-year-old man at his home in Co. Louth.

The pensioner was stabbed three times in a botched robbery at his home in Sandy Lane in Blackrock shortly before 3pm yesterday.

Sources confirmed the elderly man was working in the greenhouse at the back of his home when the culprit entered his property asking for a glass of water.

“It appears this individual first asked for a glass of water and then started asking for other things.

“He then started arguing with the injured man before producing a knife and stabbing him three times.”

Sources said Gardai believe the motive for the attack was a robbery and that the culprit fled leaving the pensioner for dead.

Gardaí have confirmed this morning that a man has been arrested in the Dundalk area and is being questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The victim is currently in a stable condition at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

It’s understood the alarm was raised at approximately 2.45 pm and that when Gardai arrived at the scene at 2.50pm, they discovered the pensioner covered in blood after suffering at least three stab wounds to the abdomen. .

A Garda spokesman said the victim “sustained a number of apparent stab wounds following an altercation with another man”.

A technical and forensic examination of the scene was underway yesterday and gardai have asked for anyone with information to come forward."

Q: Why does this behaviour still exist in modern society?
A: Because the deterrent is not specified and not to be feared.

It's still, thankfully, a fairly rare occurrence.

I live not far from the scene and this is extremely atypical for the area.

Only subhuman filth would do this to a 93 year old man.:(
What kind of parents raise filth like that?

Whoever did this wasn't on enough welfare, otherwise he wouldn't have to resort to this violence His file should be reviewed immediately.

    Am I doing this right?

Poor chap, 93 doing a bit of gardening on a Saturday. **** me.

What a scumbag to do that to a 93 year old man.

I took some heart in reading that he (the 93 year old) was still working in his greenhouse at that age, I really hope that his encounter with this vermin doesn't leave him with either injuries that might impede him still working in his greenhouse in the future, or leave him with confidence issues that would prevent him from continuing on with it either.

The sentencing in the courts is a joke and criminals know this . Unless you kill someone a good free legal solicitor will spin some cock and bull story which the gullible judge will swallow and your free to commit more crime .

What are the odds the perpetrator is out on bail for something else while serving a suspended sentence for something else.

I don’t know the man but I regularly walk past his house and he’d often be pottering around in the garden tending to his flowers, he takes real pride in it.

Hopefully he recovers well enough to continue doing so.

    Spot on.

This country needs to address its soft approach to punishment for crime. We need people to feel safe in their homes.

You'll prpbably find out that the scrote that done this has numerous convictions and should be rotting in jail. Too soft on crime in this country, throw away the key.

All the scumbag wanted was a glass of water, I blame the pensioner for not giving it to him!

Dare one say it, but might one do with borrowing Boris and the wan Patel?
    - Who said they want to put 'the fear' into criminals, as they try to add another 20,000 law enforcers.

There is really no valid argument why the guy who was arrested should consume more valuable oxygen, if he is found to be guilty of stabbing the old man.

he might recover physically but mentally he will be gone

living in fear for the rest of his life like all elderly people attacked in the safety of their own homes

15-20 years for any savage caught doing this

Due process is a bitch, eh? I'd expect him to get time for it.
