Nissan Leaf VSP – vehicle sound for pedestrians

The VSP does not appear to be working on my car. It’s a Tekna 2017.

The button to the right of the steering wheel to turn off the VSP does not appear to do anything,(apart from orange light coming on when pressed, it is off by default).

Does anyone know, am I missing some other way of turning on VSP?
I’m assuming it comes with the car as there is a button (mentioned earlier)– but maybe it isn’t. Is there an easy way to check?
    Thanks in advance.

    Did you buy it secondhand?

Leafspy has the ability to turn the sound permanently off and the button then does nothing but the light still comes on on it.

So it’s likely that’s what has happened, someone disabled VSP via Leafspy.

Yes - I got it second hand.
I dont have Leafspy - can anyone recommend an OBD reader. I've seen a few on Amazon.

The sound is very subtle. It's a faint whistle that varies in tone with speed. At lower speeds it's hard to tell if it's even on as the transmission makes a similar noise.

You don't need artificial noise from an EV, you are probably someone with a brain and can lightly blip the horn to alert a dumb pedestrian who doesn't look where they're going so I wouldn't worry about it.

ICE or EV you'll have people walk out under you or attempt to.

I drove the Prius for 4 years, Leaf for 3 years and i3 for 1 yr 9 months and all I needed was a light blip of the horn and not some obnoxious noise.

I disabled this ridiculous noise via Leaf Spy which I expect the previous owner also did.

We need to teach People to look out for themselves rather than Government, Legislators, apps etc, it's becoming ridiculous.

It's a major worry if you are on a holiday campsite like the one I have have been on in the Netherlands that past few weeks:eek:. Its been crazy trying to enter and leave the site, its 2 km's from the cabin to the exit/entrance of the camp and each time its a nightmare as pedestrians just do not hear a EV (I3). There are kids on go-carts, families walking, families cycling and when they realize I am behind them they Sh1t themselves. At least 3 times a week I cause heart failure by silently creeping up, the horn when used seems to exacerbate the issue and make them reach for their heart meds instantly! :(

For day to day its a non issue but there are times when you wish you had it!

A new European regulation means all electric cars will have to be equipped with it and I believe as it becomes mandatory equipment the option to turn it off will be removed unfortunately.

Just to those saying horn should be more than enough. Not sure the noise will work with those wearing headphones and not looking anywhere at all unfortunately. Just trying to save stupid from their own stupidity is what EU tries to do :)
