Are most people "a paycheck" away from homelessness?

I've always heard this reiterated many times that anyone could end up homeless through losing their job or getting a health issue but how true is it?

Can anyone really become homeless or do there need to be underlying issues.

    Wtf is a paycheck?

You do realize that this is an Irish site, and despite vast amounts of us toiling for the MN's dollar....
    We earn pay cheques?

As for near imminent homelessness due to job loss or a health issue.
We have a decent SW system and it takes quite a while to evict.

Unlike the country your phrasing originates from.

    In Ireland? No.

    In the UK? No.

In any EU country? No. As an economically mature continent, we have social security safety nets. You've been listening to too many American reiterations!

Do you recognise the irony of using American English to criticise another poster's use of American English? :p

I think it's possible for ANYONE who is renting to become homeless.......

    1) there is a housing shortage - so the risk of someone being left without a home is always there.

    2) rising rents going beyond people's ability to pay. (This can also present itself when you have to leave a cheaper place and the general market is dearer.

You can become homeless even though you did nothing wrong.

    Sure.

    But not in one pay-cycle.

People with cash regularly become houseless because there aren't enough houses in the places they are needed.
