... And I've just realised what her initials spell...

Anyway, there's this movement now 70,000+ strong calling for twitter to remove Alex Jones using the hashtag #blockparty500.

It's basically a list of the twitter IDs for the Fortune500 list of companies for people to import & block their twitter IDs.

I'm wondering if the same thing would work (admittedly on a much smaller scale) for Ireland to protest herself & possibly urge them to suspend her account (which I'm sure would send her apocalyptic).

The majority of the top 100 Irish brands on twitter are news based surprisingly, which leads me to believe that Irish companies don't use it that much, but if enough people got on board, the brands would eventually start spending money elsewhere & cause twitter to take a look at the reasons why.

    Thoughts?

I think it would be better if people just got on with their lives rather than worrying about, or fighting battles on, Twitter. As for the lady in question; I don't know who G O'D is.

I won't misquote Voltaire, but whatever happened to disagreeing emphatically with a person, whilst defending their right to speak?

Whilst it's true that GO'D's freedom of expression hasn't been outright denied, because she can go and scream blue, nonsensical murder on any street corner, it starts to get a bit more sinister when we effectively deprive someone of an audience because they're making statements that we find objectionable -- maybe even lies. Sunlight is the best disinfectant, and all that.

It's very reassuring, sometimes, to remember that most people are not fools. Silencing O'Doherty would only give her diehard, blowhard followers the victim status/ "proof of a conspiracy" that they obviously crave. No intention of going along to that counter-protest either. It reminds me of a schoolyard feud between splinter groups of unpopular kids. Fcuk em, ignore them.

Plus it only means you don't get to hear the, them and the ideology does not disappear because of it. It's a bit like burying your head in the sand.

I’ll be the first to admit I’m not familiar with how Twitter actually works, but that’s a thread for another day. My question really is how is the above supposed to work or what does it do?

I mean, it looks like you can block a load of companies from spamming your Twitter feed, but how is that supposed to persuade Twitter to remove anyone?

Can people not just block Alex Jones or ignore him or whatever if they don’t want to be exposed to his crap?

At least I know who Alex Jones is, can’t say I’m all that familiar with Gemma’s musings, but the few I’ve seen on here I wouldn’t be interested in following her anyway, and I don’t think she’d be interested in “following” me?

I dunno OP, what’s the point of this exercise like?
