got rear ended yesterday evening, insurance details exchanged, some slight indentations on the rear bumper and scratches so need to get it looked at

Other driver admitted liability and said would pay

First things first this morning, do I need to contact my ins co. and inform them of the accident even though they are at fault?

I sent them a txt last night asking did they want to go through their insurance but no reply, so also do I contact their ins co. to inform them of accident?

Car is still under warranty for another 17 months so would it be better to take it back to a dealer to have the work done or would it be ok to have it done by a local body shop?

Nearest dealer is 20km away where I can get a body shop nearby to do work and its less of an inconvenience

Notify both insurance companies. Doesn't mean that you will be claiming, but its your obligation to let them know about accident.

If the damage is barely visible I would do it at local body shop, wouldn't be bother going to the dealer. Get the other party to pay the bills.

Something similar happened me a couple of years ago. I got in touch with my insurance company and explained what happened. I had the other drivers details so passed them on to them. After a few days they contacted me and asked me to get quotes. As it was a new car at the time, I brought it back to where I purchased it. The other drivers insurance covered me fully.

    - Inform both insurers. Good chance the other driver will start acting up if the quote you get doesn't suit them

    - If it's under warranty I assume it's new-ish? I'd be wanting it done right in any case but especially with a newer car, but that's me. The choice however is yours, not the other party (a lot will ask you to get multiple quotes etc.. you can get it fixed where you want, not where suits them)

Want to get it done through the dealer as still under warranty in case of any issues with car in next 17months and they could potentially walk away from it if its a warranty issue

Have now contacted both ins companies, hopefully it goes smoothly

Car is driveable so not causing an inconvenience at the moment

its a 7yr warranty but still a warranty, so want to make sure its covered for the period of warranty

We don't plan to change the car and looking at the bumper this morning in better light there is a good chance it will need replacing

Just go straight through their insurance they had their chance to text you back and havn't, you will otherwise end up being out of pocket with someone thinking a new bumper can be sourced and fitted for €75.

    This.

They can always reimburse their insurer if they don’t want their NCB effected.

Make sure they check the crashbar that's behind the bumper, it can get totally crumpled with almost no exterior marks. And it's a replace, not a repair, they are single use only.

Had a similar problem with a fender bender. She tried to tell me what was and wasn't going to happen. Expected me to pay for the repair work & show her the receipt. When I heard that I contacted her insurance company to tell them I were claiming & went to set garage, care hire and was multiples of what it would have cost her before she started acting the idiot.

I presume they are not aware of the impact bar inside the bumper and feel its a quick repair with a few minor paint touchups

There are 4-5 clear vertical marks that have imprinted into the bumper from the grill for starters, apart from a crease to the side where the reflector is fitted and there is also the cutout for the number plate light has damage apart from some small minor scratches elsewhere

whats annoying me is that this is an inconvenience I could be doing without having to bring the car to the dealer next week to be examined and then a followup to have it repaired and you get this from them

Think I'll pop down to the garda today and make a record of it as they are staying about pulling CCTV...suits me. My son was there and she openly admitted liability in front of both of us

As said, gloves are now off. They rear ended you, 100% their fault. They're messing around now trying to find a way not to pay.
Call your insurance company, tell them you're claiming against their insurance company. Insurance will do an assessment and come to the conclusion that they rear ended you and they need to pay out. It'll cost em loads now by comparison, but their insurance will cover it.

Edit: think you've to call their insurance company too. Seems odd, their insurance would surely want to find in favour of their client, not you, but I'm sure it's a fair assessment.

I called their ins co but said car was a fleet car so I had to email details to an email address rather than call them, first time I had to deal with a situation like this with a fleet car

It wouldn't be too far a stretch of the imagination to think that a leasing company has something like an incident and accident handler who operates by phone and e-mail during office hours and e-mail outside office hours.

If that doesn't do the job a polite but assertive registered letter can work wonders.
