Advice on dealing with estate agent

Expressed interest in a property we like a couple of months back, despite it being in Dublin virtually no one at viewing.

We put bid in. Told by EA that no one else bided. They’d get back to us in X timeframe. Not a peep from Estate Agent for weeks after timeframe.

Now supposedly, there is interest, and other bids. Don’t know whether to believe or not.

Not impressed by timeframe thing from vendor/estate agent, and think we’ll possibly look elsewhere as has potentially to go higher bidding wise.

Unfamiliar with bidding process, and naively were only bidding on one property, am I right in thinking people tend to bid on multiple properties at the same time?

What is the ‘cycle’ this time of year? Can we expect interest/prices to take off in September, is that what the estate agent on this property is likely playing at?

Would we be best off saying, we’ll pay X now and close ASAP, or forget about it?

On a random note, what will Brexit uncertainty mean come September? Vendors will withdraw properties until prices pick up in a few months time when Brexit is sorted?

Feels like very uncertain time it seems property wise, yet we are mortgage approved.
