The slogan in the Eir ads is doing my head in.
    "Lets Make Possible"

    What does this even mean?

There's a spate of these type of ads lately. Same goes for the Bank of Ireland ad "Millions of begins, no two the same".

Begins? Millions of begins? I bet these two ads were produced by the same advertising company.

At least that makes some sort of sense. And is grammatically correct.

    It's crap.
It's effectively saying that "we're sh1t but maybe sometime in the future we won't be".
    But they still are!

There is actually a complex science behind these marketing slogans,

    Here is how it works

They have the worst customer care in Ireland. A while back it took an average of an hour to get through to them. If your an eir employee and bring in your own cereal they charge you for the milk

You would lose that bet. Let's Make Possible was made by Rothco, the other one was TWBA.

It's like one of those satires of ads that don't tell you anything.

    Possible!

Always find this very bizarre when watching The Handmaids Tale. Someone has just been shot, hung or ritually raped and then bright white and red, Tesco's 'every little helps' pops up on the screen.

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

I like that one. Recognition about how crap they are is the first step. I don't share their optimism on the second half of the sentence though

The one for the bank (AIB I think?) "We're backing brave".

Always annoyed the hell out of me for some reason.

An ad that really annoys me lately is the Vodafone one - Team of Us. Its irritating as fcuk with various people turning to the camera and declaring "I'm in." In what exactly?

Always loved the one for Shaws. I think they had 3 shops at the time.

    'SHAW'S - Almost Nationwide'.

    Wot?

There's one which is/was one from one of the big banks something like "supporting clubs, supporting communities" which I thought was fantastic hypocricy given that the bank was one of the businesses that fuelled the boom with reckless lending, leaving many young people to leave for Canada and Oz.

What else is someone with a marketing degree going to do as a profession? Go back to uni a get a real degree?

It's either this rubbish or work for 'Human Resource Management'.

.....Then again it has us talking about the companies so there's something there perhaps.

I have a degree in watching all the episodes of Mad Men so I KNOW good advertising when I see it.

In my learned opinion. Ads like these are nothing but word salad.

A friend's mother used to comment when she wore a very short skirt that everyone could see possible, meaning her a$$ was on display. I think the Eir ad is actually very appropriate from that perspective ...

Yeah, some of these companies probably think they're right smart with their made up sayings. Pretty sure no one will ever beat the ad for the Squatty Potty though, that is advertising gold!

Supervalu also have a stupid slogan - 'Real food, real people'.

As opposed to what, fake food and robots?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,687 ✭✭✭✭jack presley

Actually the use of the word 'real' must have been the buzz word in marketing circles a few years back as there was a coffee shop on the boardwalk years ago that's slogan was 'Real coffee for a real city". Again, what's a real city?
