    Hi

I'm looking at Kia Ceed 2008 1.6 Diesel as new car for me.

I know it is chain driven and been looking thru some forums etc and looks like it should be replaced after around 150k miles.

Car in question have 142k miles and no info about chain being done.

Any ideas how it might cost to replace it ?
I might bring price down a bit.

    Thanks

    Tom

If it rattles then it needs changing. Proactively changing it on a 11 year old cheap car is just silly.
You’re better off changing the clutch pressure plate as this is infinitely more likely to fail on one of those,

I know but if I buy it and after couple of months it start to rattle and I would be forced to replace it for the same money I purchased car.
I'm looking at whole picture as I don't have much more money to spend than car is worth.

No buyer with half a brain is going to reduce the asking price if there is nothing wrong with the timing chain and you start talking about what ifs months down the road. Cars cost money to maintain as well as buy so if your whole budget is being spent on buying the car then you might get yourself into trouble. There will always be expected and unexpected maintenance.

I think you’re looking at this the wrong way, there’s nothing to say the chain will just need replacing once you hit some predetermined mileage.
A car that’s had its oil changes on time and with the correct oil will have a much smaller chance of needing a chain to be replaced. We have far in excess of the mileage you’re saying there on one and it hasn’t had a replacement chain.
If anything you should be looking for a car with a proper service history.
