How to get Fibre Optic

    Hello everyone,
My name is Rory and my house and neighbouring houses have no access to fibre optic broadband. The fibre optic cable stops about 2 kilometres down the road and it has not been planned to be moved along to our area. I am wondering if there are any companies or contractors that can implement the fibre optic themselves, and bring it along the road for the houses in our area, then companies like Eir could hook us up to their broadband systems.

Please let me know if you know anyone or anything suitable for the job. Or even if you are able to do this kind of stuff

    Cheers

So just to be 100% clear - what you’re looking for is fibre to home (1000mb) as opposed to fibre to cabinet (up to 100mb)
What is the current broadband like?

Must be to the home if he is willing to hire a company to run the fibre from the cabinet to his area over 2km away.

Sounds like a good idea if eir lets it be done this way.

Kn group completed the fibre to the home work here for eir if that helps but they are a big company not sure if they would take this on.

The NBP is your only option for FTTH unfortunately - https://www.dccae.gov.ie/en-ie/news-and-media/press-releases/Pages/Press-Release-Minister-Bruton-Updates-Government-on-the-National-Broadband-Plan.aspx

I’d just be looking for something better than 6mb/s line of sight to be honest. What is the difference between fibre to the home and fibre to the cabinet? Thanks for your reply

Thanks for the reply, if I ask the NBP, will it arrive any quicker than actually planned. Our house is yellow on the roll out map. Do you think it’s possible for me to convince them to do us any quicker?

Unlikely I would think, the contract is due to be signed next month after which NBI are expected to publish their rollout schedule.

If you had to guess, how long before someone along the wild Atlantic in Garrettstown gets fibre?

Based on the limited information we have now, sometime between the beginning of 2020 and the end of 2026. Until NBI publish their schedule we have no idea.

It's a sad state of affairs but is it any surprise when the government is involved.
I'd recommend reading the NBP thread for more info but it's just too depressing.

In fairness, government involvement is the only reason it's happening at all.
