I received a letter from the appeals office dated July 3rd granting me disability. In your own experience, how long were you waiting for your first payment?

All the appeals office did was over rule the DA decision that you were not entitled to the payment.
They then send your file back to longford so that they can continue processing your claim.
Longford have to find out if you were getting any other payment from SW while you were waiting for your claim to be processed and your appeal to be heard (either SWA or as a dependent of someone).
This takes a few weeks and at this time of the year it takes longer.
In the next two weeks you should get a letter from longford telling you what date your payment will be in the PO or the bank.
If you are due arrears it could get to you on that date or as much as 9 weeks later.

    Thank you

How do you mean, for your appeal to be heard?

From what I was told by citizens advice, I should have received a letter two weeks from the date letter was issued. I’m a month on from that now.

You were refused DA on your initial application and then you sent off an appeal to the appeals office.
The expression used is that your appeal was “being heard” meaning that the appeals office was looking at your appeal and considering wether or not to “allow” it.
That’s why you got a letter from the appeals office that said:
    Your Appeal is : “allowed”.
The appeals office then notifies DA that they have overturned their decision to refuse you DA and they send your file back to DA in longford.
Your file then is looked at again and sometimes they ask applicants to resubmit payslips and bank statements as so much time has passed since you first sent them.
They also contact your local SW office to find out if your were getting SWA or someone was claiming for you, because that money will be deducted from your arrears.
occasionally at this stage the local office might send a SW Inspector to see you at home but it doesn’t happen very often and only happens if they have a genuine query as to your financial domestic circumstances.
Only when their satisfied will DA in longford write to you and tell you that you have been awarded DA and your payment will be in the PO/bank on such and such a date.
This all takes weeks and at this time of the year they are chronically short staffed and it takes even longer.
At least 6 weeks I would say. I’d be thrilled if you hear from them in the next fortnight.
You could be lucky and get any arrears on the first day or you could be waiting a further 9? weeks for that.
    Hope this explains for you.

Thank you, it’s cleared up any confusion I had. I have another query if I can mail you please?
