What are you grateful for?

Over the last five years, I've been exchanging gratitude lists with a group of women online daily.

There are no hard rules, but the idea is to write 10. The first two or three usually come easy, but it can take some thinking to get to 10, and in the process, I often go through a mindset shift.

Reading other women's gratitude lists has made me aware of how much I take for granted i.e. when they say "I'm grateful I was able to pay my rent this month" when that's something I wouldn't give a second thought to.

Here's mine for today. Join in if you want. It can be as simple or as elaborate as you like

    1. It's sunny out
    2. My housemate is away for the weekend so I have the place to myself
    3. My super cute puppy
    4. I'm going to the zoo with friends tomorrow
    5. My sister asked me to be bridesmaid for her wedding
    6. My business is starting to make a little bit of money
    7. A lovely conversation with an old friend on the phone last night
    8. Two friends have moved home from abroad lately and it's nice to have them back in my social circle
    9. I was able to renew my Driver's Licence online and didn't have to actually go there!
    10. My housemate gave me a blueberry muffin for breakfast so I didn't have to make something

I know this is kind of similar to Trivial Things that Make you Happy... but not quite the same I think?

My hot young neighbour who let me through her apartment earlier when I locked myself out in the back garden. She tried to kiss me as I left her apartment but I just brushed it off as I’m married but it’s nice to think that I as an older man am still attractive to young women like her.

I don't really see it as the same thing, though it's similar. The main difference being that it's a variety of things listed, and they're both significant and trivial.

No worries if people don't want a second thread with a similar focus (though we have unlimited negative ones, so a few extra ones focused on positivity wouldn't go amiss!)

I've been doing mental lists of good things in my life the last 6 months or so, it is a very helpful thing to do I think. It can force people to see that their life isn't as bad as they think or maybe might get them to realise they actually have a good life even.

1 I brought one of my nieces for a long walk in the sun today, we fed the ducks & swans and she made me laugh so much as I did with her.
2 I am seeing my other niece tomorrow, she is a mad hyperactive yoke who says the most ridiculously funny things.
3 My longstanding lower back issues have improved greatly in the last 3 months due to an new exercise regime I am on. My mood has improved a lot along with it.
4 I have bought an apartment and am excitedly thinking of all the things I want to do with it.
5 I am trying to improve my self confidence & self esteem, it is a slow going process but I am making good strides and hope to continue with that!
6 Last for now... NO WORK TOMORROW! :pac:

My rocking chair , it belonged to my late mother and before than a very elderly aunt.

It's in the kitchen, but I'm thinking of moving it out to the porch but herself won't let me , something about the shotgun and the neighbours.

And you don’t even see the constant updates on Instagram!

I assume over time it’ll become less of a thing and just a regular part of my life, but we’re only a few months in and I just love her to bits - the novelty hasn’t worn off at all!

    Nice thread OP.

There are lots of things I am grateful for but I'm not always able to really FEEL it. Like I know on a cognitive level what they are but there are days when it just doesn't land.

    Today I am grateful for:
Being able to sit beside the sea.
    Good company.
    Listening to myself.
    Hugs.
    Being honest.

    Oh I *totally* get that.

Often I’m writing this list to try and trick myself into feeling grateful for things I know I should be grateful for even if I’m not feeling it in the moment.

Being born in a country where I can take plentiful food, clean water, medicine and education for granted. Not far from the countryside and the sea. A small population so no crazy crowding. No war, no famine, people are free to criticise the government all they want.

A great family (some people's family situations are shocking).

No financial worries. Doesn't mean I'm loaded but I have enough to live comfortably.

My health - never any issues of much concern so far, and I can afford health insurance; some people have severe disfigurements, or are confined to a wheelchair. Any things bothering me about my appearance are just stupid, trivial things, some of which I can change myself.

Having a full-time permanent job - it's not a great job but permanent jobs seem to be decreasing in supply.

    My friends.

Don't get me wrong - there are things about Ireland that piss me off hugely, but that doesn't mean there aren't positives to be embraced.
