Which Drill?

My Wolfcraft drill stand's just arrived. Only, my present drill doesn't fit in it. Not the end of the world. Because, I'd rather have a drill permanently fitted into it. And I prefer el cheapo drills, for general buggering about with. They seem to last years.

Problem is; I need to know one extremely specific bit of information about my new drill. It's the diameter of the casing collar, behind the chuck. Effectively, the bit ye tend to clamp those side handles onto?

It has to fit in here, see? And, the distance between those two arrows, allowing for a few turns of the locking nut, is 37mm

Bugger, isn't it? Having to look for such a specifically sized drill. I'm wondering about an old, s/h B&D, off ebay. Or, something like the dinky little Skil drill I had.

Doesn't need a massive chuck or anything like that. It'll be a single purpose set up. Be dropping a 45mm Forstner bit through 1" planks.

I'd also point out that the thing that holds the drill down, from the top, is a spike which screws down against / into the back of the drill.

Anyone with a small, cheap drill and set of calipers, please? :D

You might be screwed here so to speak but I hope I'm wrong. All the modern drills that will go in a drill stand have iirc a 43mm diameter collar and don't have any other fitting, no screw at the top.

So I don't think any new drill (last 30 years?) will fit. You are probably looking for a very old Black and Decker drill.

You could grind a bit off the casting towards the top of your photo, where it would contact the drill, or maybe make a new bracket with a bigger gap. Unless maybe you want to keep it unmodified.

    :) Thanks, people!

3Cents has saved me bugging ebay / amazon sellers about the size of their parts.

Bonzodog has highlighted a possibility that completely went past me!

Okay. Absolutely no stress then. I'll run it past a couple of lads I know. See what they think, stood there looking at the situation. They're both far more skilled and talented than I am. Bound to come up with a workable solution.

Grinding that area away is a definite possibility. As is simply replacing the holding arm, now I'm thinking about it.

Wonder if I should just choose, and grab, an el cheapo drill; Give us something positive to work from / to? Gonna need one, anyway. Sounds easier to fit the stand to a drill, than fit a drill to the stand :)

    Thanks, again.
