Nearly lost my Strava KOM

So someone nearly took my one and only Strava KOM.

So I'm wondering is there any tools that would allow me to analyse the route. Such as being able to see what wattage would be needed to repeat my KOM time?

It's only a matter of time that I lose it, I have held it since 2014(predates my misses)

Strava usually gives an estimate of power but maybe it didn't back in 2014 and it would be based off of your weight back then.

I take it that the KOM is on a gradient that's some way respectable(average 5% or more)

Maybe this calculator would give you a good estimate.

It's actually a popular time-trail route, its fairly flat with two kicks of roughly 3%

Then power is fairly irreverent just wait for a very windy day with the wind in the right direction or get your friend to drive a car and draft him.

    Know anyone with a truck?

Despite the music and how cool these guys think they are it's not too smart.

Drafting a truck like that at 70 km/h is about as brave/stupid as I've gone.

If you have KOM on popular TT route, you are wattage bazooka. How come you have only one KOM?

Numerous reasons, but the main one was that I was off the bike for nearly 4 years and over that time lost the rest. It's fairly popular, yesterday alone 17 people did the segment. When I set the KOM I was in training for racing until an injury. So currently trying to get myself back to where I was

The best feeling is stealing a KOM from an ex pat thats gone to 'Stralia. Never taking that one back eh matey!

Second best is nicking your clubmates in his hometown :D

Worst is when you lose one abroad :( I've had some abroad that I'll never be on again. Worse again are all the run koms I had, I haven't ran in 3 years so no hope of getting them back!!

I think people need to man up and post links to their most precious KOM and dare other member to attempt to claim it!

I go back to that video a couple of times a year. Each time I watch it, I think they are more stupid than I thought previously.

bunny hopping at that speed :eek::eek:

All the decent KOM with some real climbing in my area have been taken by someone who was about 50kg at the time.
My goal has been to get into the top 10 on them, far more rewarding than the actual KOMs I hold.

Better than hitting large cats eyes at that speed but switching lane wouldn't cross my mind at that speed or anywhere near it.

I've held this one (on my commute) for 4 years now even though I'm not particularly fast. A certain Mr Sherlock is 1 second behind!

(Admittedly it's not a particularly popular route with only 21 on the list.)

The gauntlet has been thrown down!.:)

I have 15 currently but half of them are obscure ones created on private roads/trails by teenagers on MTB's around my workplace. There was a while back in 2016 when, anytime I took an alternative route into work, I was bagging a KOM. It was getting embarrassing.

I had this one for ages - watching it go was tough but with time and therapy I'm over the loss  No way I could dig another 30 seconds out of the bag.

I had the Christchurch one for a while - the two ahead of me look dodgy but maybe that's just bitterness talking (It's definitely bitterness talking).

I had a lovely KOM for a while until clearly someone in a car left their Strava on while going through my KOM segment. After that disappointment I gave up in the whole segment stuff.

I got a KOM when the GPS must have gotten funky and recorded a full road when I only cycled half of it. I reported it and they took it down. Report that one.

my father in law (not a cyclist) is organising a charity cycle. i had to get him to log into strava on his computer yesterday - he'd been using it to map out the route - and hide all his activities. he was a little put out that people had ratted him out on strava, until i explained that bagging people's KOMs while driving a powerful merc was not quite sportsmanlike.

No KOMs for me but third on an off road bit I do regularly and had been hoping to steal early one summer morning. Bastard mother nature with her briars and nettles and encroaching foliage put paid to that. Sitting here with shredded calves and a beer plotting plan B. About as much chance as Wiley E Cayote catching the roadrunner..... (It will be mine!!!)

Have a few alright but with so many top riders around my area there are mine only cos the don't travel the roads.

I did however take 2 off the head of my coaching company!

Ive a fair few (head swell!) but top few most happy with would be:

    6000+
    https://www.strava.com/segments/12828303

600+ and a far out and back so no wind advantage
    https://www.strava.com/segments/3386883

    900 odd
    https://www.strava.com/segments/2128189

Not many have done this but its another fair fiull loop one
    https://www.strava.com/segments/1663860

And one that if anyone manages to get access to beat then far play to ya :P
    https://www.strava.com/segments/3677659

My most proud one was a loop iin Phoenix park that i had for a good while until a bloody olympian nabbed it, and by nab i mean destroyed it!

    If you can find it!

magicbastarder seems to navigate the most obscure backroads of North Co Dublin and east Co Meath. Strava indicates that I have done it once in a club ride in August 2016 (20th place) but I have no recollection of it.

I have a rough rule that every time I go out I should find a road I've not been on before, but that's getting a bit harder now. That 'feeling well' segment isn't so obscure for me, I lived a couple of hundred metres away for six months.

I see a someone had a pop at it today, got within 1s of catching me.

Have had three. One which was the meath heritage tour. Was then beaten by 11 seconds. Only have one now which is the long mile road but thats just a case of getting luck with the lights and holding 350 for two minutes

Once a week Strava send me an email about a KOM I lost in Tallaght. I get it, I lost it. John G took it 2 months ago, yet once a week they send me a reminder.

I'm 13th on that due to a tailwind in a club league TT a few years ago. Three of us broke 7 minutes. Couldn't believe I only finished third!
