Do penalty points amount to a criminal charge?

If I am asked on a job application if I have been charged with a crime or offense, does this include penalty points for the likes of speeding?

It might sound stupid, but for some reason I thought that the FCPN was an opportunity to avoid a criminal charge in court.

    Appreciate any help!

You are correct. A fixed penalty notice is not a criminal charge. If you don't pay it and get summonsed to court, that's a criminal charge.
