Opel/Vauxhall Insignia enquiry

    Hi all

Just wondering is there a genuine reason as to why the insignia cars are so cheap to buy? Especially compared to A4 and A6 cars etc. Looking at 2014 and 2015 ones and they seem very keenly priced, even with low mileage. Is there serious problems with these cars? Seen worse looking cars so was always half tempted to buy one.

    Cheers

You cannot compare prices of Insignias against A4/A6s, they are aimed at totally different markets. An A4 and A6 are premium brands whereas the likes of an Insignia is not. An A4 and especially A6 cost a lot more to buy brand new too.

However the main reason Insignias are cheap second hand is because that model has a terrible reputation for reliability (plenty of threads on boards about them) plus they are very popular as sales fleet rep mobiles and rental cars which impacts resale values. 2014 onwards facelift models were supposed to be much improved reliability wise.

Well they are about half the price of a well specced A6 to begin with.....not really much point in comparing to the A6
A fair whack cheaper than the A4 new too

They're not in demand 2nd hand and although I know nothing about them I've read a lot of bad things about them here and can't recall much good...
Seem like this decades equivalent of the Laguna from the 00s but I'm not sure if that's fair or not

An insignia would rival a Mondeo/avensis/passat etc.

I have a 10 reg insignia which cost me an engine. If I had used a mechanic with Opel experience it would have saved the engine. A weak oil seal perished and starved the engine. Only noticed when the new engine was fitted and the faulty seal noticed. I met two mechanics that diagnosed the fault afterwards. Opel haven't recognised this fault or issued a recall which would appear to have helped their reputation. I would take a chance on the newer edition if I could find a mechanic local enough and knew to what needed to be done and when.

GM were the problem but since them issues the cars are PSA as Peugeot bought the brand....

    They are dirt...

Sisters brother lost his 2011 to oil starvation and as soon as the red light shows it's too late as damage is done before it's even lit...
