Amazon TV Warranty

    Good day to you all,

I'm wondering if someone could offer an igonorant fool like myself some advice. I bought a nice TV just over 2 years ago from Amazon and now a line of discoloration has appeared on the screen - it's slight but very annoying. The TV was about 800 quid and I asked them for a repair, replacement or refund.

    I got back:

My name is Mark and I'm part of the Warranty Escalation Team at Amazon. Thank you for your feedback.
Firstly, I'm sorry to hear of the difficulty experienced with the TV.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 says goods must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. During the expected lifespan of products, customers may make a claim in respect of defective goods for a maximum period of 6 years. This doesn't imply that every item has a warranty or a lifetime of six years and this varies across products, but permits an individual to make a claim under certain circumstances within that time period. This applies only to inherent defects that are present at the time of delivery.

Since you've had satisfactory use of this product for a period of time exceeding both the manufacturer's warranty period and the typical average life of this product, please understand that we're unable to offer you a repair, a replacement or refund of the replacement value.

Please note that the manufacturer is often in a better position than the retailer to deal with technical problems affecting their products. Therefore, should you wish to pursue this matter further, we would encourage you to contact the manufacturer to see if they are able to provide you with any further assistance. They may be in a position to offer a repair service or could provide you with information on relevant charges for an out of warranty repair

I was thinking surely the average lifespan of a relatively expensive TV is more than 2 years? I said I had more but they won't budge. Would small claims work??

    Thank you.

Purchase 2 years ago, was it delivered directly to you?
    Or a parcel forwarding service?

Small Claims Procedure is worth a punt. They may just cave.

2 years, very slight discolouration in the panel - may be hard to argue. Its not technically faulty and unless there was rampant case of this occuring, the environment the television lives in could be blamed.

What brand is it? Some TVs come with an extended manufacturer warranty, my Sony TV came with a 5 year warranty from Sony themselves.

I dont know where you would stand with Amazon and purchasing online, would it fall under UK or Irish consumer law or?

    It's a 4K Sony Bravia kd-43xd8088.

Straight to the house. They actually fecked up and lost it and I had to contact them for a replacement one to be sent.

I say slight but it's very noticeable when there is a light colour like white on the screen. It's basically a single dead pixel line top to bottom. The TV is pretty immaculately kept - funnily enough, I ordered two and the other is kept in the same house and doesn't have the problem - not sure if that would be relevant.
