    Hi,

I'm looking for some inspiration please!

Currently driving a 131 Volvo V40 1.6D ES D2 with a whopping 162,000 miles on the clock. Looking to trade in for a car with more room and bigger boot space for buggy etc. I have €7k-€8k cash max to spend along with my own car.

I do a lot of driving for work, approx. 140 km per day (all motorway) plus trips down to Galway at weekends so a low-mileage diesel car is essential.

Don't know if i should go for SUV or Estate. Torn between going up in years for say a Qashqai (which just doesn't do anything for me!) or go down a year or so for something with more comfort/higher spec like a C Class or 3 Series Estate.

    All suggestions welcome!

i have a 2012 c220 diesel merc and a 3 month daughter and cannot fault the car at all.

good mpg plenty of room in the back for her and as she grows and boot space for buggie etc

very smooth on motorway and crap irish roads i got her up the north for 10k in 2017 but i see they go anywhere 4k-9k but i see your max is 8k
that should get you a nice irish reg one

Thanks for that. I have €7k-€8k plus my own car.

I'm guessing the trade in value for my V40 will be on the low side considering the mileage.

Tempted to go for something like this...

not bad at all the boots are huge in those estates i have the saloon version

i managed to find a manual because loads are autos but if you don't mind that they are a very good car.

the timing chain is the only stickler with those engines now mercedes say they don't need to be replaced you just need to listen to the engine on cold start to hear if you hear a chain rattling they need replacing its a engine out of the car job so big bucks.

i just noticed on the tax disc of the car you linked it says €570 for the year mine is 280 for the year and mine is a c220 just something to ask if you are viewing this car

Good spot! Garage says tax is €280 according to the ad but I just entered the Reg on motortax.ie and it's coming up at €570-00. That has turned me right off!

I'd go for an A6 or e class or 5 series OP. You might not be able to go up much in years for 8k, maybe 1 but you will be able to go to a bigger car and perhaps a much lower mileage one too.

A Skoda Octavia or a Superb Combi estate if you can stretch to it would offer more space than the likes of a C Class. Very practical cars for lugging small people and their stuff around.
