Accident picked up on dashcam

Hi all, minding my own business this morning waiting about 10 cars back at a red traffic light when a motorcyclist was knocked off his bike after a collision with a car on the opposite side of the road, I didn’t see what happened, just him hitting the deck quite badly and getting up, the car in the collision stopped, other people in my queue got out to check on them so I went on my way. I had the dashcam on so when I got to work had a look at the footage, it clearly shows the accident and the car driver was clearly at fault as she was turning right onto the main road and took the motorcyclist (who was on a straight clear road) clean out of it. I called the local Gardaí to tell them I had the footage if required but they didn’t seem interested but took my name and number in case. Should I do any more?, I’d like to track down the biker to give him the footage ideally in case he needs it for insurance?

Post up the location in the thread title, and someone may see it easier who would otherwise skip over it.

If you wanted, you could put up a sign on nearby traffic lights for the cyclists to see.

Stick up an exact time and location and i can post it to a few Facebook pages I'm on. It might be very helpful for the biker.

If you can find the parties involved, providing the footage may save a lot of time, stress, delay and money.

Maybe post in the biking section

Not the first time the bronze show little interest...Its 50% our own fault for riding bikes...according to the RSA.....

Good to know there are some car drivers that put a value on our lives tho...;)

There's also a Dublin 15 section on boards. Could be worth putting it up there too.

Fair play OP, hope you manage to find the biker and hopefully they are not too worse for wear.

Retired Garda myself. I have PM'd you the details of the investigating Garda for this accident. Its him you need to speak to as due to data protection the Gardai will not release personal details on anyone.

Pair play but I suspect the OP was referring to the Guard not being interested in the available evidence and/or securing it. I don't believe the OP requested any personal details from the Guard.

I have been in the station in Blanchardstown a few times for passport forms and the like and the attitude in there is shocking and ignorant.

Have stopped going there and go to Lucan Station instead and they are a world apart - such pleasant people to deal with.

Anyway OP, I've shared on a few forums.

Yes I saw that attitude up close from within myself more than once so I know all about it. Unfortunately people just put up with it and don't complain. You have to be forceful to get your message across to these people and if they won't listen ask for the sergeant. Even today getting that information I was met with an initial brush off but he probably guessed I knew the system and he provided me with the details I needed.

Call Traffic Watch to report. They'll forward it to the local roads policing Gardaí, who in my experience take this seriously and will thank you for the footage.

Normal Gardaí think motor offences are beneath them and won't give you the time of day. Nearly got killed by a truck while cycling before and they couldn't have cared less.

The biker is already found. He is still in hospital. Big, big thank you to BlazingSaddler.

    Well done OP.

So depressing the Gardai involved couldn't facilitate a a decent and simple civic-minded request from a good person.

    - I hope they're proud of themselves right now.

Its a long, long time since I heard anything positive from the Gardai..... Not sure who they're attracting into the force or what they think they're being paid for.

They're such a mixed bag. Some seem slow and uncaring, others are committed, compassionate and professional.

Very glad that the OP is making up by being a good citizen. Heartened to see the help offered by the recently retired Guard too. Fair play to you both.

If the car driver admitted her fault in a first place, no video evidence needed.
No needs to make things so complicated

Doesn't complicate anything, just evidence of what happened.

OP, fair play to you, not too many stand up to be counted when the time comes!

Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it..

Car driver may have admitted fault initially but nothing to stop her from recanting.

Trust me, IF it was a questionable case, cops would of taken the evidence. No needs to play smart here

Nobody's playing smart here, just safe, that's all.

OK, great to hear that. Had just posted it on a biker forum, but glad the person has been found.
    @BlazingSaddler: fair play to you.

Just a quick update, after alfasudcrazy was good enough to give me the name of the investigating Gard, I left a message for him and he called me back a few days later requesting the footage. Seemed like a decent guy in fairness, I dropped it in to the station and showed him the footage on the phone. He seemed grateful.
Thanks again to boards I tracked down the motorcycle rider involved who appreciated the video.
    Thanks all for the help!

As someone who has been left standing with a broken bike while a car drove off, fair play to you.

Irrespective of whose fault it is, it is good to have someone acting responsibly in these situations.

Jesus, keep your knickers on.

Trust me, my experience of the cops in the Blanchardstown district is the opposite

My experience was very different. About 12 years ago I was taken out by a car driver in a similar manner. My bike was written off and I was fairly lucky to walk away with bruising.

Anyway, the car driver didn't stop.

I went to the guards and they were much more interested in the fact I hadn't been to the VRO yet (bike bought a few days before in England). They were pathetic. Never heard from them again after making the statement.

On the one hand, that's great

On the other, it stinks that in this country you often have to know someone or be connected to get the guards to do their job. I have personal experience of this.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.
