Heating bills

    Hi guys
Not sure if this is the right thread but just wanted a little help.
Recently brought a house with gas heating and a very expensive burner (Lennox G61) basically it's that bad I have to turn off the gas supply to it when we are not home or I'd be broke.
So I'm with calor gas and have a tank in the garden from them which I pay 150 odd euro for maintenance yearly on top of my bill. Calor have put my account in a different price bracket and also upped my bill 42euro a month to pay for what I am using.

I'm just wondering if I can switch company's (Flogas) seen as I have calors tank on my site.

Also I was told by someone that I'd I switch company's get the new customer free gas and switch back next year again to avail of the free gas of calor also. Just wanted to know if that's possible to do.

    Any help is greatly appreciated

How are you controlling what you use - do you have thermostats, timers etc? Are they in working order?

We have a thermostat and timer but we have it set to come on anytime it goes under 15degree. The house is an old house and may not be all that well insulated but don't have the money at the moment to do that

That's not bad to start with, but could probably be significantly better.
There are grants out there to get these improved - see:

I notice you don't say anything about hot water controls...could have an impact too.

Calor is known to be pricey, but I'm not sure it's the worst if controlled correctly.

The alternative is oil (Expensive to change to and will get progressively more expensive due to carbon costs) or electric (like a heat pump)

Insulation / windows / air tightness would also help hugely (although you don't have the funding for that) after the low hanging fruit of addressing the controls.

Hi, our house is about 25 years old. The oil boiler (about 15 years old) has given up. Natural Gas runs past the front door so was considering taking up this option.

    Installation
What Costs am I looking at?
    Connection is about €220
New Boiler (possible a Potterton Profile 24s as neighbours got this)
    Zoning (Heating, Water)
Supply and fit 2 x new Rads
    Fittings/Electrics and Labour for above?

    Running Costs
    House is a 4xbedroom and normally got 2 x 1000L fills each year (about €1500 - €1700 pa).
Hoping to make significant savings with the new gas boiler and "smart" controls.

Yes we have water and cooker running off the gas tank also. I was talking with a person I work with and they said that 1300/1400 pa is as cheap as I'll get it. Was just trying to get a better deal. Thanks for your help
