I am about to commence a C.E scheme and I understand that you have to take up training/education. I am delighted to do it, but is there a website where these courses are listed that I am eligible to do? I would just like to see what courses are available to me.

Anyone know where these courses are listed?

It's all down to what you actually signed up and the progression plan you have with your supervisor.

For instant first aid and manual handling maybe be required for the position so your supervisor will need to arrange for you to do these ,
Childcare would need first aid , manual handling and a QQI lv5 .
    Carers might have similar

It is a admin position, and I have a degree in Business if that matters.

ETB courses are free on CE, you can do any part time or evening ETB course you wish. I was the CE administrator a year ago and I did advanced spreadsheets with the ETB. My supervisor also agreed to pay for a business admin course at the local IT as well but it didn't run due to lack of interest in the end. I did a few other short courses as well during my time, fire safety, manual handling, dementia training, mental health first aid. I signed up for occupational First aid as well but hurt my back two days before and wouldnt have been able to stand sitting in an uncomfortable plastic chair for three days. You can pretty much do any course up to a year in length as long as they have the funding to cover it.

    Thank you, Cherry Blossom!

So basically you can pick out any course you want to do, as long as it runs up to a year, and funding is there?

If you google fetch courses there's loads of options.

You couldn't do level 7 or 8 courses or post-graduate but I think pretty much any lower level course is OK within reason.

Your supervisor will also probably suggest a few like manual handling or first aid just so that they can get a few people from the same CE group to do them at the same time.

    Thanks for the info!

Does those courses include Springboard+? Cause I think I heard you are eligible for Springboard if you are doing Community Employment, but I may be wrong.

Since 3 July 2017, if you are aged between 21 and 55 years, your CE placement generally lasts for one year. However, if you are working towards a major award i.e Level 8 or 9, your CE placement can be extended by up to 2 years to complete this award.

A major award can be at any level, not just 8 or 9.

Yes, excuse me, of course it can. What I meant to say is that you can do a level 8 or 9 while on CE scheme

Springboard told me I could do a post grád course with them while on CE. The IT running it said I'd have to leave CE. The Deasp said you can't leave CE to do a Springboard course. Of course they didn't tell me this till I'd left CE and started the course. They contacted the CE project demanding they take me back. The CE project said no because they had already advertised the position. I had a delay in getting my jobseekers as a result and the whole thing was a mess. They almost cut me off for six weeks which would have meant I also was not eligible for the Springboard course. I got my pay backdated to the day the course started in the end so it worked out but I was given a stern talking to and sent on job path as a result.

    Jeez, that's terrible.

I better stay clear of Springboard.

There's no set list of courses. Anything that is QQI, you will be eligible for. However, you may have to bear part of the cost yourself.

Outside of QQI, the current practice is that courses are considered on a case-by-case basis, and subject to D.S.P. approval. If you can make the case that it will progress your career, it will be considered. You should discuss your options with your C.E. Scheme Supervisor.

In practice, despite what the rules say on paper, a more flexible attitude is being taken. Extensions are not always limited to Major QQI Awards, nor is it currently essential that they lead to any awards on the QQI scale. Extensions are often granted for non QQI certification in areas like I.T. or other professional qualifications.
