Online medical card application query

I applied online for a first time medical card on the 18/7. Today I received an email which said

Thank you for your recent application for a Medical Card/GP Visit Card.

"Reference number xxxx has been assigned to you (and your spouse/partner where applicable). Please keep this reference number safe in case you need to contact us.

A request has been sent to your GP of choice to add you (and your spouse/partner where applicable) to his/her list of patients. Once the GP accepts your registration request electronically, your registration (and that of your spouse/partner where applicable) will be finalised and a Card will be issued.

You will be advised if there is a difficulty in relation to your GP of choice accepting your registration."

Does this mean it has been approved and I just need my Dr to accept or is the Dr accepting the first stage in the process?

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

From my understanding of the English language, that is what's being said.

    Gp accepts, card issues.

I applied for a new card online myself recently

Got that same email on 5th July, my card came sometime between 15th and 19th July so hopefully you'll be sorted in the next 2 weeks

Your experience may vary and medical centres might be slow this time of year

Its standard procedure..as the HSE will not issue medical/gpvisit cards without the GPs name on the card ,hence its why the gp has to accept you as a patient on the gm list first

    It won't be automatic.

If the GP accepts you online today for example, the card will be issued in a few days or week providing everything else is verified.

Although the email is computer generated so don't be surprised if they come back asking for more info.

Sometimes it happens that in the meantime the card issues without the gp accepting, if its a doctor you've had for years etc.

Mine just issued while it was waiting for the gp to accept.

But yeah, don't take the 'card will be issued once gp accepts' too serious.

Best to ring them to see if they need any more financial or other info from you 1890252919
