New short term let rules

What's the story with recently introduced short term let regulations? We had a chimney fire at home a few years back and got a short term let apartment in Dublin city. It was about three times the price of a normal annual contract rental but suited our purposes (we only needed it for a while)

The apartment letter said most of his lets were to business types flying in for a short period: week or perhaps a couple of months. It's wasn't an air bnb homespun thing, rather someone fulfilling a need in the market and running a business at it.

Are these now outlawed? I still see ads from the same short let agencies I advertising nightly/weekly/monthly lets in Dublin

Short-term letting (any lets of 14 days or less) of an entire property is now only allowed for 90 days per year only if the property is the owner's principal private residence. If it is not their PPR, or if it is but they want to let the entire property on a short-term let basis for more than 90 days per year, they must get planning permission to change the use of the property to short-term letting. It's possible that these apartments may already have the required planning permission (especially if they were purpose-built to be executive serviced apartment lets from the beginning), or it may be that the owners who are still letting them by the night or week are unaware of the new legislation or are just ignoring it and hoping that enforcement and penalties will be lax.
