Handbrake stuck issues

    Hi all,
I don't use my car regularly and last night the handbrake was frozen went I went to start the car. This happened before and I called a mechanic and he basically reved it and drove it until the handbrake clicked out. So I tried to rev it and it didn't work, I drove it with the handbrake on for around 100 metres and it felt like it wasnt working at all. So I stopped and restarted the car and the handbrake issue seemed to have been fixed.
Since then though, when driving, it feels like I'm driving over something with every turn of the wheel. Now, I checked the wheels and don't see anything stuck so im a bit stumped as to what it could be.

Has anyone had a similar issue and could advixe what the issue is? I've absolutely no idea tbh!

What car and year etc is this? For old cars it can be an issue with the cable or the lever itself.

Herself got the same issue after only one night with handbrake on, had to drive and reverse a while until it let go.
She now only parks with handbrake on in inclines.

Did you try reversing/going forward while pulling the handbrake up and down to work it a bit?

You could get a pro to look at it as they can lift car up and look closer.

    Is it a VW Polo?

If this happens and the car has steel wheels, a few good belts of a hammer to the centre of the wheel can free it up, or as Biko says rocking between first and reverse can get it going too.

Sounds like one of the shoes may have dislodged into the drum from what you are saying, which wouldn't be good. Does the handbrake still work ok?
