Competition - Card marker

Does the person marking your card have to actually play or can they just walk around with you and mark it.

For example if I enter an open competition online through the BRS and there is nobody available to play with so I bring my son with me, can he mark my card? He's 9 by the way :) He might play a few holes but he'd prefer to be driving the buggy!
Anyway, just wondering what the procedure is with this.

Generally speaking if a club comp it would need to be someone with a GUI handicap, never heard of a casual walking partner being okay

They do it on the pga/European tours on occasion.

    Ask the club.

I doubt your son could, but I know that in some clubs they'll send out a junior member, or one of the junior guys from the club shop to go out as a marker
