Can anyone advise on the process. I’ve bought a car from the UK and I’m importing it.

What are the very first steps I need to do?

What do I do then with regards tax & insurance? Do I need to wait for VRT to do this or can I get it insured & drive it?

Can my existing insurance cover me?

Really novicy on this so any guidance great appreciated

Need to be insured to drive it off the UK forecourt, so organise with your insurance company before you go that you will need coverage from a certain time/day. When you arrive in Ireland you will have to declare it for VRT which you can do online, you will be allocated a registration number which you can get made up on plates in a local motor factors. I think you have a month to do so. When you have the reg number then you register for motor tax.

Thank you. I’ll call insurance tomorrow & get that sorted. Then I’ll book VRT once I have the VIN number

There's a very comprehensive thread on UK imports in the Buying and Selling area.

There is a huge thread here about importing, it started in 2004 but most of your questions have repeatedly been asked in recent times:

You don't need to complete V5C. Just take it with you from the seller (still on previous owner name).

You'll need that to get the car registered in Ireland (you must hand it down at VRT office).

Great thanks didn't know that, was thinking of sending it off. Have VRT booked in for the weekend.
