Good songs that we only hear in advertisements

    The most obvious example to me would have to be 'Baba O'Riley' by The Who. You're garanteed not to hear it on the radio (unless it's maybe 1 o clock in the morning), but you'll definitely be teased by a brief clip of it... whether it's an ad, or a radio talk show intro, or CSI.

    Relax by Frankie Goes to Hollywood in an Ambre solaire ad from the 1990s

    The whistling song in the Avonmore milk ad.

    Came across it randomly a couple of years ago.
    Never heard anyone play it or know it and was amazed to hearing being used in their ad over the past year or so.

    Agghhh, just reading your post has put that stain of a song in my head now! Thought it would never leave the airwaves.

    Anyone else remember a point in the 90’s where if a song appeared in a Levis ad it was almost guaranteed to go to number 1.

    Yes, yet another Mattress selling company.
    {Not sleeping enough is the new smoking}

    So good a tune, it doesn't even need any VO to flog them, just a 5sec super (overlay) lashed on at the end.

    The Levis campaign of the 80/90s remain one of the most iconic and successful campaigns ever, it was Saatchi and Saatchi and it was pure genius.

    The new ad would come out, targeted at men/women or both, the music would reflect the demographic they were targeting, and boom...buy some ad space and watch the single climb the charts, it was like getting an advert to No 1 in the charts when getting to No 1 actually meant something.

    Guinness followed up with a similar and very successful campaign, many of a certain vintage will remember dancing to that crazy Guinness ad in pubs and nightclubs....you couldn't buy that type of exposure...that era was drenched in creativity when you think back on it!

    Yes I remember Spaceman by Babylon Zoo in the mid 90s. No one had heard of the song and everyone was talking about it. Then when it was released, it got number 1 but it was an anti climax.

    Spaceman.

    I heard it again on a rerun of Top of the Pops lately. It was an absolute turd of a song with really sh1te '90s grungy guitar.

    The lad that wrote it faded instantly into obscurity after.

    Probably the short version.

    There was another one called Inside by Stiltskin, which went to number wan after appearing on an advert.
