looking to buy a 172 car from a dealer which is priced at just under 31k. looking to trade in my own 2011 318d BMW and was offered trade in value of 5k bringing car to 26 with my own. I offered 25 but they are adamant at sticker price of 26 with my own. even offered to meet halfway at 25.5 cash with my own but they wont budge. Is there ever much movement of sticker price when you have a trade in.

Not as much as buying straight as they are probably already bumping up the value of your own vs what they’re actually buying it in for using that discount.

It really comes down to what both cars are really worth and how cheaply they got the car you’re buying.
Chances are your own car won’t be retailed due to age so it’s probably a trade bid they have.
As with everything - shop around.

Try selling your own privately. They’re probably buying yours for €4000 or €4500 in reality. You should be easily able to get a few grand more than that yourself, then negotiate €1k off the 172.

ya they have said they wont be retailing my one and its hard to shop around as its an high spec and edition version of the car so no other ones for sale at the moment to compare.

Put it up for on donedeal for €5k today. It’ll be gone by the morning.

If your 318d is in good nick and lowish miles it's worth a good bit more than 5k on a private sale. Especially if an m sport. I presume its an e90? Although in fairness its been replaced twice at this stage.
What's so rare about the model you're buying if you don't mind me asking?

Its a night edition of a Merc CLA they are not that common but by no means rare or overly special just a nicer look and higher spec than the normal CLA.

How is it priced relative to others?

I wouldn't get too hung up or fall into the trap of paying over the odds because it is a rare spec. You can be sure that the dealer didn't give it's former keeper anything substantial in the form of an extra trade-in bonus because it's a rare spec.

Not too hung up on spec just cant find a comparable model to base price on. Also highlighted to salesman that CLA has been remodelled from 192 and its now an outdated model.

I presume this is Mercedes unimaginative version of Audi’s black edition, and has slightly different wheels and grille?
If so, don’t get hung up on it, Mercedes have nowhere near the following for their shporty humdrum as Audi do. I can’t see it actually being worth more down the line.

A neighbour brought in a 162 model cla in from uk last month ,the same car here is 26k .This car has full main dealer service and same main dealer guarantee as if bought here .Any way all he parted with was €15k all in ,the uk salesman could not get over that the car would cost so much over here!!!
This is the same type cla here

I find that hard to believe and so many people bushh1t others with fake deals to make them a "hero"

I'd ask the neighbor for the garage details and say you'd love to get one yourself.

A quick search will show nothing under £16k for 2016 cla in the uk. Add exchange rate, vrt, delivery and you're at €23k

I'd call the neighbor out on the bs.

    So around £10k

The low mileage ones without stories will usually make far more than that.

There’s some on autotrader around €12-13k but they’re high milers.

5k is a fair trade in offer if your car is an SE. If it's an M Sport, then probably a little on the low side.

Not a chance mate, your neighbours is telling fibs

Apart from a couple of 100k miles on the clock examples a 162 CLA is going to cost you 14k STG. I am getting a vrt quote of 4,600 euro. That's bringing the price to over 20k euro and they're the cheapest ones. Your neighbour is indeed spoofing or he bought an absolute banger.
