Dell G7 RTX laptop order cancelled, what next?

    Hey all.

I had a g7 in on order from dell that they just cancelled on me suddenly. It was the rtx 2070 version with the 144mhz screen. All in all after discounts I'd paid 1750 for it.
The config has been taken off the website so I'm thinking there may be a problem with them. Now I don't know what to get.

I'm looking for a desktop replacement so I don't mind it being big. Any ideas about best value in or around that price range?

I can claim VAT back against the purchase so would prefer to pay in euros from an Irish registered website

    Best regards,
    Andrew

Irish registered website is the issue - very few offering availability on gaming laptops really.

does it have to be 17 inch?

I'd be open to smaller screens, but bigger if possible would be my preference.

Is laptopsdirect.ie Irish registered? Prices are in euro, seen it mentioned on this forum.

If you're vat registered you can still buy from abroad. You will have to give them your vat number and they deduct the vat before they charge you. I've done it before a good bit. With Amazon they make your whole account vat free so you can't mix personal and business purchases on the one account. You need to have 2 separate accounts.

not sure - they have a not-so-great reputation is there is any issue with a laptop though in terms of returns - they seem to be a bit tricky there from people's experiences that I've seen.

email them to ask about the VAT.

Amazon uk are vat registered afaik

    not a bad option

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-Zephyrus-GA502DU-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B07R2DYP2M/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=1660ti+laptop&qid=1563386633&s=gateway&sr=8-3

benefits of rtx not going to be apparent for a couple of years really imo

    1660ti better than old 2070

the amd chip is a decent match for the 1660ti

or a 17 option. but the rog has a nicer case

couple of negative reviews but I don't think that they sound too serious. most are positive

positive comprehensive review from trustworthy site here

Edit: just had a read of Amazon's vat policy regarding purchases. Thanks for the heads up on that.

    Thanks.

by the way - much cheaper to add in ram yourself afterwards than paying extra for the 16gb option.

takes 5 to 10 minutes and your granny could do it.

Thanks for the great advice, in paticular about VAT. I went a bit overboard and picked up an aero15 x9 rtx2070. It arrives on Tuesday.
