If you're moving around a lot, maybe they're doing their job.

Residents acc in my estate was deadly when i was young ! Good aul Noel . Yearly trips to Monsey on big dodgy bus, yearly trips to funderland, pet shows and football tournaments down the park, one year he got go-karts,fishing days, massive family games of revlievo , time of my life looking back.

they are trying to bring back community at the moment, so try to chip in and bring my 20 month old to as much community BBQ's, Halloween partys as i can, christmas should be fun this year.

    There not all assholes.

Agree. Unless it's the same person, then you might have a problem.

Have one lad who hounds the management company to keep the place looking tidy and running well. He is a head wreck of a busy body but he gets great results so I'm very glad he lives here.

my estate set up a residence association and a WhatsApp group.
fcuk me it was a tale of misery... a handful of residents used it to vent against every minor flaw with their lives. Or tales of larry murphy sightings or teenagers smoking hash in the field .

Never once did these people actually talk to their neighbour to resolve an issue but instead used the WhatsApp to vent.

in the end the WhatsApp group was disbanded over these misery junkies.

They are quite frankly ridiculous people.

In politics they are the people's liberation of judea front types.

In residence associations they are the ones to insist on re-reading the minutes of the last meeting to prove their point and Mr So and so really DID say that thing that no one else cares about.

They really can't actually do anything though so everyone gets ripped off by service companies.

The "point of order Chairman" type. Solely responsible for lenghtening meetings of unions, clubs, residents associations. Just when you think you will get to the pub before last orders you hear "point of order Chairman" in the Dublin Trade Union accent

When I was growing up our residents association required balaclavas and bats for membership. How the times change.

Guess these Dudes are just tryin to bring a bit of order into Paddy's life....proper parking arrangements when they know Pat would like to dump the ould slab wherever he likes....some painting colour rules when he just knows that Mary in number 29 would like to paint the entire house in bright yellow .

Pat just dosen't do ORDER.....we need these Dudes...

In my last place absolutely. She was a horrible old wagon, retired, single and with nothing else going on in her life apart from the residents association. Took a while to learn to ignore her and to bin the passive aggressive underlined management company rules.

"Chairman I propose we reject the wage retrospection and demand payment of the back pay instead otherwise all out"

There were some characters of shop stewards about in 70's Dublin and 'all out' was very much part of the vocabulary. Some were celebrities in their own right. Great craic was to be had in the local pubs listening to their tales of the various battles with management. Union meetings were priceless - all 'brother' this and 'brother' that and 'clause 4 ' of subsection '42' paragraph 3 - all right 'brothers' 'can we have a seconder for the motion please'. :)

"Brother ,me bollix" , this roared at a union meeting at an electrician who tried to argue that electricians who hung Christmas lights in Henry Street were more skilled than other electricians.

When I was growing up our Residents Association, of which my Dad was a member, was labelled "a vigilante organisation with ties to Republicanism" by the Gardai.......... I just received a leaflet through the door from my current Residents Association about a Green tidy-up this coming Saturday with "attendance not compulsory but absences to engage will be noted."

My life/circumstances have definitely changed over the years........ I'm just not convinced it's for the better though?

You need to set up your own residents association quickly, get up early maybe 4am and do your Green clean up.
Nothing like a turf war between residents associations

Always the type who were in the Students Union but failed to make the leap to politics.

    Lol

I'll be noticeably absent come Saturday......... I'll probably bring the kids out somewhere for the day anyway and leave the dedicated residents to clean up an already spotless Green.

We had a great one in the estate I grew up in: annual kids party and a massive BBQ street party with a band for the adults every year, common areas of the estate were re-landscaped and maintained etc.

Where we are now, there's an estate Whatsapp group which is pretty handy but nothing formal.
