If so how did it go? Are the dentists who do the procedure through the free government method just as good as ones where you pay yourself, as in should there be no complications?

Usually they are the same. Unfortunately there can always be complications, ranging from pain , soreness and swelling all the way to loss of sensation regardless of private or public.
