It's indicative of them being good for sure, I dont ever remember them being desperately unreliable though, just a bit flakey. There's got to be flaws in the poll though and they are subject to fan boy ism I think, seeing as Skoda/ Seat/ VW, Hyundai/ Kia and Renault/ Dacia can all end up so far away from one another

Ah lads ah lads ffs !! Dont me going near Peugeot its absolute dirt coming from a previous owner of a 206 its a ball of ****e i had never so many problems with the axle brushings and injectors

I think so- doesn’t it cover a lot of owner experience type stuff so mightn’t be the most objective I suppose- someone buying a Skoda may have lower expectations than an Audi or VW owner

Yea but they’re over 20 years old now, the survey wouldn’t cover them. For all the rap it got the 206 it really is a great little survivor. Was a ton of them still on the roads up until the past two years

I had a range of x06 pugs and never had a problem with them. They did seem to lose the plot with the 07's, but thankfully they've gone back to the more pinnafarinna style of their previous heyday.

Peugeot are the crest of a wave at present. From their SUV range to the 508 to the forthcoming 208/2008 have nailed the styling both inside and out, the fit and finish of these cars seems to be top quality too for the class they are competing in. You also don't hear too many horror stories around reliability of their recent cars either.

It's a survey of more recent cars not some pos from the last century

I had a 5008 rental in France a few weeks ago. I was really impressed with it. Very nice to drive, the interior felt very well put together, very stylish inside and out.

They’ve definitely upped their game as the previous 12-15 years they put out some awful dreary stuff.

They went through a terrible blobby phase from about 03-11. Really crap cars with poor quality to match. Turned a corner with the outgoing 208 and they’ve been on a roll ever since. They’re in the top ten sellers in Ireland consistently for a while now

I’d take one over any of the equivalent VW which are clearly their bench mark rival.

Their top spec models are eye wateringly expensive though, 51k for a 508 GT Line.

I’d say they’re hedging their bets a bit now as they probably are trying to ring maximum profit from their vehicles as they can charge more now.
The outgoing 208 was a very affordable and quality car to get into. Know someone who did the scrappage offer into a new one for just over €15k with very decent mid range spec (stuff VW or Toyota wouldn’t give you). I could really see the appeal of one

That's well into new BMW 3 series Sport/M Sport territory. Now the new 508 is a super vehicle but needs to be priced well below the established premium makes to be realistic.

I do like the new cars they're putting out and they seem to be decent spec but the prices are pushing it a bit. 508 is a cracking looking car inside and out, one of the few cars that interest me.

Seeing quite a few of them on the roads, I wonder are they discounting them much? Their prices are quite high compared to the rivals I think.

Are Toyotas really less reliable than Renaults and Citroens?

And (despite a thread here on their junk engines) is the Insignia really the best mid-size car?

No issues with the "Pewjoes" success, but some of the results don't match other recent surveys I've read ...

I had a 406 and it was one of the most reliable cars I ever owned. Fantastic machine, great sound isolation too.
Then I bought 500eu 206 as a run around for few months. It was piece of ****, horrible yolk to be in and drive, it would never pass next nct, but still did its job taking me to work and back home. Did good few trips to Limerick from North Cork when I was still just going out with my misses.

People here are very snobish when it comes to french cars. It's a shame, they are very good now and I really could see myself in new 508. It's a shame it's price tag went so damn high.

The answer to your 2 questions is a resounding "no".

The JD Power surveys are always rubbish. The reports by the firms that offer guarantees after the manufacturer's warranty has expired are much more reliable and based on hard facts. The Japanese and Koreans always top the polls in those ones.

Are they really though? Renault and Peugeot are in the top ten sellers here! Both have very good abs wide dealer networks which helps I think

Just looking at the price list after watching this review, it's €41k for the GT Line 180hp petrol automatic. More or less top spec. I believe the Allure spec is also decently kitted out at around €38k. Would a high spec Passat be north of €40k? It's not on the config. Keeping in mind it would probably be at least €1,500 more if we had the 180hp TSI.

Only downside is their finance offerings aren't great, 4.9% and lousy contributions. Calculator isn't working so no idea of payments.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,656 ✭✭✭✭road_high

I’d take one over a Passat all day long. The residuals will probably be fairly strong as the recent range hold their value very well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,363 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

I think they won't sell in huge numbers here and I just cannot see the high end variants selling well in this country because of the pricing. It would be very difficult to sink 50k+ of your own money into a new Peug irrespective of how good a car they are. If importing from the UK is still viable beyond Brexit then there certainly could be value in importing a 1 or 2 year old top GT or GT Line model. Their rarity here wouldn't be a bad thing though among the sea of the usual rep mobiles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,656 ✭✭✭✭road_high

Probably not at those prices alright

I’ve seen a few of them around already but maybe I’m just noticing them more as the styling is so head turning. If the pricing had been keener it would have sold pretty well I think. The old 508 was a good car and good value

If you could live the 1.5 Hdi a well specced manual is in the €33-36k range. I hear it’s perfectly acceptable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,205 ✭✭✭✭hmmm

The big difference for me in most of the current range is the interiors, which are a class above, and exterior styling - not overtly flashy, but without the breadbin look of older models. They've also got a super range of engines which only sip fuel.

No car enthusiast is gonna take a 1.5 French diesel car seriously. Same issue with the RCZ, nice styling but crap engine choices.

    BMW's position is shocking

Its not really for anyone that's owned one.
The worst thing you can do is buy a new BMW model in its first year.
My F10 had has a ****load of problems regarding seals, aircon, headlight modules, idrive unit etc. The engine itself is rock solid thank christ otherwise I'd crush the ****er.
If I do ever buy a BMW again I'll make sure its always the LCI model as they're 3-4 years into the lifecycle of that car model.

Wouldn’t be unique to PSA! How many VWs are the 1.6 vs the 2.0 l ?
I’d want the 2.0 l if it were me but ma t motorists would be perfectly happy with the 1.5 if it performs reasonably

The 5008 is selling well, no cheap used ones either

50k new for the 2L however is steep

German cars were always muck, change my mind :)
New 508 looks like a great car.

One things I've noticed with Toyotas is that their satnav/ICE units on European models are awful buggy messes, which may be impacting surveys like this. They don't even have CarPlay or Android Auto. They should just give up and stop trying to make their own.

But the RCZ also came with a 266bhp 1.6 petrol. Surelybthe problem here is focusing on the diesel versions. There was also a 200bhp version of that engine.
