Hi just looking for opinions on buying a new car this year when there’s a new model due out next year , would it affect re sale value as I would essentially have an older model when I go to sell in a few years time , thanks in advance

Buy the car when you need it. There will always be a new model next year.

Personally I'd wait for the new model unless I had no interest whatsoever in cars.

What's the car? Entirely new model or facelift?

    In depends.

If you buy new and want to upgrade 2-3 years time, then it's not great. You will shafted in trade in value.

If you buy new with the plan on keeping it for 5+ years, then buying current model is better idea. You can wrestle a better deal, as new model coming and usually mature models have way less trouble, as all imperfections are ironed out. New models that just roll out usually have issues, which later sorted out with new batches. By buying new model you are a paying beta tester.

Depended on what you want from the car. In true Audi style the new A3 will look much the same but the interior will see quite a big jump in tech with digital dash and more screens. If tech is not a big deal to you and you can get a good deal on the outgoing car then I'd buy the car you want now.

Dosnt the Audi brand have a strategy of changing interiors every few years to drive customers to buying the newest interior 'look' - which of course devalues the old interiors and cars - especually in a luxury brand like this. I'd buy in the second yearly cycle of the latest edition look - just a few months old but not taking the hit on the driving off the forecourt devaluation and taking advantage of a new up to spec model with the on trend and higher reseller value interior.

Thanks for that , that’s my worry because I hope to upgrade in 3 years time as it’s PCP . Its my first time going down the pcp route so I’m trying to think of all possibilities when it comes to upgrading and what my car would actually be worth .

I do like my gadgets only think that’s pushing me to buy now is what they have offered me for my own car as a trade in, I’m afraid if I wait until next year I won’t get offered as much for my own as a trade in

If your going PCP then it's not in your best interest to be buying a model that will be replaced soon. An old model will always be worth less come resale time so you will have less equity in it when it comes to the end of the PCP term. Also the current A3 has been around since 2003 and they feel dated now imo.

But there won’t be. Maybe every 6 years.
Old vs new model most certainly affects resale value and you’d want to be getting a nice discount to counter that.

Thanks Bazz, I’m coming from a Hyundai ix35 I’ve always loved the shape of the A3 saloon and while I like the Hyundai I thought I would go for a saloon for a change , haven’t seen anything else that I really like saloon wise , I also looked at the Q2 which I liked but can’t find many posts here about them , boards is always my first point of call when it comes to advice etc

No talk of a discount tbh and they didn’t tell me a whole lot about the new model said they didn’t know much , I’d say my discount is in the trade in price they are offering me for my own car

New Mercedes A Class saloon or CLA 4 door coupe are worth a look at.

That model is out 6 years. The gap between upper pleb and lower premium level cars is narrowing all the time. I really don’t think the A3 saloon can really pull it off these days.
Sales of the hatchback A3 are a third of what they were 10 years ago where Audi total sales as a brand have remained roughly the same.
