Timber Rail Prices

I need to put up a bit of rail fence but the costs are higher than I thought.
One local place has 16' lengths of planed treated 4x2 for 9.80 a length. I don't need it planed so said I'd go to the high volume timber merchants in Limerick where the same length of treated but not planed costs a tenner.

Is this a reasonable price? I'm thinking it's a bit steep.

€9.75 for 4.8m treated rough sawn 4x2 in the builders providers I’d normally get timber in. That’s Dublin though.

Although, I did a small bit of 3 rail fence here. I got a heap of 16ft 9x1’s and ripped them in half.
So if ya were able to rip them down, you could get 16ft (4.8m) lengths of 7x2’s treated for roughly €15.
Up to yerself. Save a few €’s and still look good. I’ll post a pic in a while

It would be Sitka spruce at them prices, but it will be fine above ground once treated.

Btw they are replacing post and rails on motorways due to impaling issues if someone crashes into them. Nothing wrong with the rails, if you could find the contractor they should be going for handy money.

Never seen mortised fence, but it’s probably larch or Swedish pine as I’m sure there would be a premium for it.
