Used car with high mileage

Looking to buy a used car, 2015 Skoda, which has 100k miles on the clock. Seems to be good value but obviously concerned about the mileage in so few years. Is this a valid concern? Besides the timing belt, what else may need to be replaced?

Depends on the life it had, something doing a daily run the length of the M1 and back would be in better condition than something running the back roads of Donegal to cover that mileage. Suspension components may be coming up to needing replacing, very hard to tell, my advice would be to get it with a fresh NCT to limit any immediate major jobs needing doing. A service history is important.

With that much muileage on it resale may be difficult but if you are keeping it 4 or 5 years it won't really matter.

Great, thanks for the reply. So the high mileage wouldn't necessarily be a reason not to buy the car, provided everything else seems good?

    Thanks for the advice.

Yes I wouldn't be too worried, just be aware that resale will likely be difficult so get in knowing this.

Its 100'000 Miles ( not Klms? ) does it have a service history? Is it diesel or petrol? Has it the 1.6 or 2.0 engine? If you do buy this one, unless you can get definite proof that the belt has been changed, I would advise you to get it done ASAP.
I was in a 2018 Skoda Octavia recently, with 149'000 Klm done in it's first year ( Taxi ) the driver told me that he normally keep's them 3 or 4 years max, or until they reach 500'000 Klms. He has been driving Skoda's for years, and they are his car of choice for taxi work. He services them religiously, and he claim's that this is the reason he get's such high mileage from them. Generally, if you see a particular make of car being used as taxi's, it's a good recommendation.

Miles unfortunately. It's the 1.4l diesel. Belt hasn't actually been changed, so that would be first on the agenda.

That sounds like good news alright from the taxi driver.

The Skoda the taxi driver was using had the 2.0 Ltr Diesel engine in it. The Son-in-Law had a Skoda Roomster, with the 1.4 Ltr Diesel engine in it, He bought it new in 2008, and traded it in 2018, with 400'000+ Klms on it. That's approx 240'000 Miles. In all that time, it needed only standard replacement service item's. But Servicing is the secret...if it does not have provable service history....look for one that doe's.

So originally UK car, have you done a history check on it? Is it for sale from an Irish dealer, if for sale from a private seller how long have they owned the car?
